I took a drive today

Truthfully, I was bundled up pretty well. I could stay out all day. Just kinda dorky looking. It was fun. I'll be doing that again soon.

By the by...I have chewed up about five of those freaking garage door worm gears over the years. Mine are old, and I do mean old, Craftsman units. You can get both replacement gears along with pins and grease in a repair kit for about $30.00 bucks on line.

I wasn't skilled enough to do the gear change. I was surprised to be able to do the new install without injury.

I didn't have the patience to do it either, so I just bought new unit today. Noodled on it for an hour tonight and got the old one down and the new one assembled. Hopefully it'll be done on Friday night and I'll be able to get back to working on my car projects.

BTW, the dude an Sears says this happens all the time with the plastic gears. he said they are designed to fail that way....WTF????:eek:
