• For all members (past, current, and new)

    THANK YOU ALL FOR HELPING TO GET THIS CLUB OFF THE STARTING LINE !!!

    To begin your membership with Gateway Cobra Club please submit your vital information to our club registrar/Treasurer: Paul Proefrock

    Please include your:

    Name, address, phone numbers (work, home, cell) e-mail, etc. Also, tell us about your Cobra (make, model, year, colors, engine, options, stage of build, etc.), where you bought it, any other particulars. Also include other vehicles, birthdays, your occupation & company, and any other details about you and you significant others. BTW - this info will not be posted on-line (EVER). It's just for us - to make the club better. We will eventually create a database for internal club use only.

    We will begin collecting dues soon to enable the activities that we have planned for the year - so stay tuned for that.

    FINALLY - get involved. Attend the meetings, schedule some cruises, and have some fun. We want to make this club fun (for the whole family). We're small (for now) but we're going to make a big noise here in St. Louis. In the end - this club will only be as good as our members participation.

    Thanks for joining us - see you in the fast lane!

Hello everyone,
yes, I'm a Husker ! :D

We don't have much for Cobra forums here, even though Shell Valley and what used to be,..Midstate Cobras. are local, they don't really have much for forums or for my Cobra. I built a 2000 Lone Star Classic Cobra way back in 2001 with a 428 FE, then rebuilt it in 2004 for more power. I wanted 600 HP, but when I spoke with one of the best FE engine builders Barry Robotnick and he said getting that HP with the 428 is asking for trouble, so he said build a Ford 460, and that's what I've done. I'm giving my Cobra a rebirth in the drivetrain so the is a Ford Motorsports 460 which is a lot stronger than a truck block, stroked to 527cu. all the good racing parts. Kaase SR-71 loaded heads, his roller cam & valvetrain, a cool stacked,...EFI with Holley's Terminator brain. New Tremec TKO 600, McLeod billet aluminum fly, their dual disk clutch and it's all balanced. It should be around 750 Hp/TQ.

I raced go-karts at age 7, mini sprints for years, then to the 360 & 410 dirt wing sprint cars for 21 years, so I yearn for light weight overpowered HP cars. :cool:

I know that a lot of the Superformance Cobras have the 460 and several people said that engine would fit fine in my LSC, but man,....it's tight !
The engine is in the car, but the stainless steel headers are going to be a bitch to make.....at least on the drivers side. The steering column, the rag joint and rack are in the way. But I'll figure it out.

I look forward to meeting you guys and chatting everything about our toys. (y)
Kevin

(the engine pics in the car is my last FE)

Hi Kev,

The Cobra is really coming along great. You may have to make the headers the way one guy here did. He had to make them in very short pieces and then when he got them welded together he had them all polished and you couldn't tell by looking that they weren't one single piece for each tube.

Ron

Welcome to the club! My old factory five had a 460. I got teased a lot about my truck engine, but loved the torque. Good luck with the headers and keep us updated. I believe you're our first Lonestar! I have friends in Texas that have them, let me know if questions and I can put them in touch.

Welcome to the club Kevin, your cobra looks very nice and sure to be a beast when finished. Can't wait to see her.

Hey buddy, good to see you're here too !
Yeah, I used to do the same, but now I'm using this mock-up snap together header/turbo etc kit. Since their so expensive.... a friend I bought them together. Their pretty cool. The problem is, who's house do we keep the kit at ? 🤣

Hi Tim, thanks !
I really wanted to stay with the two 427 body style engines (some people may not know the 427 was the body name, not the engine, weird huh) that all the street engines had the 428 FE and the race cars had the 427 side oiler. If I had the money I would have bought either Shelbys FE block, heads and intake or the same with BBM's combo, but just the blocks are 4 to 7k, and both still need finishing the machining !
that's around 15k to 23k, building it myself ! NOPE.....🤪😲
Even with my EFI I have about 13k total....and 750 HP. Try that with the other two's price and HP. Ain't gonna happen.

The last real problem is the tires. The budget is already gone overboard with all the other parts. I had a Group Buy for AVON tires all over facebook and a couple of other websites and had 34 people wanting them, but Sasco decided they did not want to ship to 34 address, but I told them it's the same as if they called them to order anyway ! I heard,....that they wanted to sell the 34 sets to racers at the track, not some Group Buy. :mad::mad::mad: I said, do you realize just how much money 34 sets would get you ? lol....We were all disappointed.

I have 15" wheels.

Ok, I really want the Goodyear billboard tires, but they are the old (like me) bias ply and tend to follow the road tire grooves.
The Avon's are a great radial but would cost 3k with mounting & balancing. WAY...too much for me.
I don't think the drag/street tires are for me.
The MT SR flame tread design tires look great, but are they tall enough to fill up the wheelwell's ? Their a bit shorter in the aspect ratio than a 295/50 ?
The Cooper Cobra is very popular and real low priced.
The tire of the 80's,....BF Goodrich is still a great looking tire.

I'd like to buy the glue on rubber letters from TredWare, so if I don't buy the billboards, for the look, the BF Goodrich has a pretty close tredwear pattern.

What's your thoughts ?

Depends on your use of the car. Everyday street driving and little to no performance, the Cooper Cobra/Goodrich tires. For pushing your car and the occasional track day, the Avon's can't be beat, Right Rich? I know a member in KC that has the Goodyear Billboards, and they are about as sticky as the Avon's. If your stuck on the 15" tire/wheel combo, your choices are limited. If you go to an 18 choices are pretty wide as 17's now are getting limited. But, in the end, all about the car's use.

At my age now, I don't race much, but I like to go to the tracks a few times per season, then fun on the street, not stupid shit like the young crowds of today. I do like to smoke the tires as well. The AVON's are too damn expensive ! Good tire though. I don't care for the 17" (+) wheels, I like the tirewells to fill up with tires not wheels. The tire selection for the larger wheels are great. I wish the AVON Group Buy had gone through !

Welcome Kevin. I too enjoy high horsepower, but I get mine from boost. Welcome to the club and it looks like a great build.

Kaase heads and Stacks, my 2 favorite things on a Big Block!
Do you have plans to get to StL / MO?
Kaase=FAST🤘
Stacks=BLING 😎
Tires =💰

Probably not, I have a lot to get done with the Cobra. But what is it ?

You know, St Louis, Missouri :unsure: :D We do have a cruise in Nw Arkansas in October that wouldn't be too bad of a drive for you.
