Google Maps change

Paul, speaking of google maps...I am considering getting a large screen GPS for use in my roadster. (that way you won't have to chase us down when the back of the pack gets delayed;)) Tim said you had some good suggestions that were reasonable? I have not purchased a portable one in years so any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike P.

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 2689LMT It is a 6" model - I like the screensize. Tim has a 7" screen but the unit is substantially bigger than mine. His has a backup camera port, mine does not. Other than that, they are essentially the same units.

Mark Patterson suggested to make sure you get one with BlueTooth so you can download to the device from your phone.

The best deals I could find is from GPSCity.com I purchased a refurb unit for $160 The refurbs carry the same one year warranty by Garmin in Kansas City. Didn't see any reason to spend an additional $100 for the fancy packaging. Speaking to Garmin in KC, I learned it wasn't a refurb but actually a new unit. They say it is a way the distributors get around the pricing requirements of a distributorship.

Very pleased with gpscity. The unit is pretty good, the only issue is the screen is very glossy and I get some glare off it when mounted in the car. But once I got used to it, no big deal. The maps still display fine.

I think mine is a 2589. I got a lot of glare mounted on the windshield, but Tim said his was very clear installed on the tranny tunnel, so I mounted mine at the front of the tunnel, under the dash and it is MUCH better!
I bought mine new last year after Supercruise and it went out right before Springcruise this year. When I got home I called Garmin and returned mine and 3 or 4 days later I had a new unti, no charge. No problems with this unit.

One tip, I keep a couple small plastic sandwich bags under my seat in case of rain, I can throw it over the GPS and/or Radar Detector.

Ordered a refurb Garmin 2699LMTHD on gpscity.com for $160. Should work great. Thanks again for your help!! Mike P.
