GM to open a new engine plant ... creating 1000 jobs --- IN MEXICO !
Thanks for the rim job GM.

Also - has anyone heard about the changing trucking regulations that is allowing Mexican truckers and rigs full access to the US? Our truckers and trucking companies are now in danger too.

Change...

I'll say it once and I'll say it again, next truck I buy will not be a Chevy. Give them our tax dollars and bail them out, then they do and do this.

NAFTA allowed both countries to let truck drivers to cross borders...used to be frt had to be transloaded at border. Only real problem encountered with the Mexican trucks conditions. Not held to same safety standards as American's.
When I worked for Roadway we were one of the first US companies to be allowed to take our equipment into Mexico. The trailers were "interchanged" at the border and frt was delivered by our interchange partner. Some top level decision was made to send the newest, shineist trailers to make a good impression. We never got them back...they became condominuims!!!!!!!!!

The report I heard last night was that the NAFTA trucking arrangement was partially recended maybe during GWBs presidency, but some sort of new executive orders and new laws before Congress will be re-enacting this portion of the law and giving it even more teeth than ever before. The representative of the trucking industry was quite insistent that this new provision may deal a death blow for US trucking industry. Some truckers on the call-in portion of the program were talking about state-by-state blockades similar to what they did in 1979. They were describing a sceanrios whereby 5 mexicans could pile into a cab and drive cross county without stopping - and do it below standard rate. Apparently these mexican firms are already undercutting standard rates and getting quite a lot of business - taking away from US firms - including US government contracts like the postal service.

Anyway - the show was Coast To Coast AM - which I listen to some nights - another thread sometime.

Here's a link to the guest supplied article: No I didn't read it.

Screw gm I was smart and did against what everybody was saying and bought ford stock when it was down. After working at gm dealers years ago and saw some of the crap they made, 200 turbo - bomb siteting blocks for main bearings - valves droping and telling customer you have been hot roding you car no for warranty - junk diesels - heads cracking - water born paint ( that you couldn't blend ) water leaks at cowl seams ( sealer melted out after going through paint oven ) and paid very bad times to repair under warranty - screw them . I for 1 was against bail out for them - years ago toyota was thinking about buying gm duh they would have inherited all the pension problems. Any money givin to them should have to be spent in the usa and not on them taco benders. All loans should stop until they get their house in order and only use venders and plants in the usa. I know ford has plants out of this country but they are not operating on tax money. Speaking of stocks What do you all think of B P ( people forget )

Here Here Mikey. Ford did itself & our nation proud by not taking gov't money even when it was offered. Good for them. They earned my respect for that. Haven't owned one of there new vehicles for a while, but next time who knows.

I know we are all car guys and the GM news is not good, and I agree 100% with the comments. I'd like to buy a US made and sourced vehicle too - but see a previous thread about that - there are just not that many vehicles that fit that category anymore - very sadly. I think Ford trucks and Mustangs, and Corvettes are the majority if I remember right. Almost all else are outside our borders primarily.

Let me tell you this - This trucking issue may be huge. We are screwed without the American trucker. Every single item in our consumer life arrives via truck. I don't know if you remember the big strike in 1979 - I do - my Dad lost his business and many people and businesses suffered - and that was minor compared to what they are talking about now.

I'm just sayin.
