Thinking of heading up with Steve to Gingerman at the end of August. Let me know if you want to tag along, I'm camping at the track.

Steve, this video explanation good?

Tim:

Yep. The back straight into turn 11 is almost as long as the main at Putnam. I think it is faster because the entry speed out of 10a / 10b is higher.

And if you watch the video you'll see that the only place you can get into trouble is turning from that back straight onto the main straight. So this track is just as forgiving as Putnam.

And for those of you just starting out...great for beginners......hint, hint.

Steve
PS: You can also bring the woman folk for a little vacation. South Haven is right on Lake Michigan and a nice resort town.

Jim Dooley may come with me....my moral support :D Got my brake switch today, will install it soon, then up to Omer's for a once over.

Steve, are there restaurants nearby? Are you planning to eat out each night? I'm thinking of bringing my grill and just cooking at the track both nights. Also, You mentioned you are staying until Monday, wonder if they will let me stay at the track Sunday night?

Tim:

I'm glad to hear that Jim is coming with you.

I do have a room reserved for Sunday night, but I will more than likely head home after the event is over. If I get too tired to make it home I'll stop somewhere along the way. Your best bet is to call the traack if you want to stay over Sunday night.

There are a few restaurants in the area. Including you and Jim, I'll be there with half a dozen or so friends. I figured we'd all do stuff together as a group. Dan Mroz will be there with his land yacht so I expect he'll be cooking one night too. Let me check with Dan to confirm. Maybe we can do a big cookout for the group.

Have you given any thought to what time you'll roll out on Friday?

Steve

I was thinking before noon, like around 10 or 11. You?

Route Change

I just drove that last week and you want to avoid I80 & I94 as much as you can.

We cut over in Kankakee on 114/10 to I65 and then went up to IN20 which parallels I94 for a while. It bypassed all the construction on 94 and 80.

When we went thru on Saturday afternoon, Google and Waze was reporting 2 hr delays on 94 and 80

FYI

Paul

Paul:

Your route is similar to the one I take. 70 to Effingham. 57 to 114/10. 65 to 80/94.

Can you give me some more details on the IN20 part of your route? Where did you pick it up, how long it ran, etc?

Steve

Steve,
On I65, go past the connections to I94 and then I90 - I65 ends in about 100ft and intersects into IN12/20. Take that east, staying on IN20 for about 10 miles. It will go under 94 and then connect to it just past IN149. The surface streets move pretty good, the neighborhood isn't too bad, it's a four-six lane road with only a couple stop lights. Once you connect with 94, there wasn't any construction past that point. All the tie-ups are between I65 (mile 13) and IN249 (mile 19).

Hope this helps

It does. Thanks!!

Tim:

How about we meet at the Highland, IL rest stop (near mile marker 27) at 11? That's about an hour away from both of us. We can then stop for some lunch and gas in Effingham.

What say you?

Steve

Oops

You might want to rethink the meeting point. The eastbound rest area is now closed for redo

Thanks for the heads up Paul.

Tim:

How about we meet at the Welcome Center in Missouri that is just this side of the river at 10:30?

Steve

I'll try to make it there by noon on Friday, 8/29.....pending work. I will let you know if I can't.

I've ended up taking the day off, need to call Jim tomorrow and see if he is still going. Going to get the trailer tomorrow. Had the car at Omer's today and filled the tranny, rear diff, changed my brake switch, brakes to track setup and adjusted valve lash. I'm ready. Leaving the street tires on for the rain laps we will make :D

Steve, get near me and this will happen, about the 55 second mark :D

Rain chances keep going up. I have to make a decision today to get the trailer and start packing.....I'm leaning to a no go decision. If I don't go, I'm out the registration fee. If I do go and don't even get my car out, I'm out fuel and food (an additional $700). Right now, I think I will wait until tomorrow to make a final decision. If I were you, however, with a top and all I would go. Me, will be more work to keep the interior dry between sessions than it's worth and prepping the car. Weeks without rain, now it's a damn rainforest up there.
