FFR Soft Top

I'm assuming you remember a certain someone in the club made his own( over achiever Paul P ;)). I bet if you ask real nice, he may show you how you can make your own at a cheaper price. When you do, just remember to draw up detailed plans for other who have an MKII. I'll follow right behind you on this one. :D

I've fitted a top to a car. The 45 minutes might be good to put the top on the car, after it was installed the first time - doing it in the rain :(

To fit it the first time - Figure two weeks of nights and weekends. It isn't an easy job although their "ultimate" top does preclude using the lift-the-dot fasteners along the back edge. Even so, it is still a lot of work.

$3,400 - ? ? ? Costs on my top
  • Top: $550
  • Top Modification to clear Roll Bar: $350
  • Bows:$565
  • Side Curtains $500
  • Mounting Hardware $200
  • Misc: $75
  • Total: $2,240 (Ugh, I've never added it up before  )

I almost got hard top, but stopped because I think it takes away from the looks of the car and not wanting to drill into body - besides have no heater. watch ebay every now and then 1 pops up on there.

Bull,

Your the nut out driving in zero temps. Why do you need a top???

I was thinking about the top for my friends, so I can take them with me. Not everyone has as much thermal protection as I do. ;) plus then i could drive is more in the winter. Just not with rain since i have no wipers, no any room to add them.

Have question about this top ( http://www.northracecars.com/hardtop.html ) looks like it hinders you from getting in trunk. I think I would want to see before purchasing. Watch ebay I have seen both hard and soft tops on there - last fall black soft top with side curtains sold for around 850.00 and seller said was never installed due to drilling holes in his body.

Mike, the top has a hinged back panel that allows you to open the trunk. It says it in the features and you can see it in the bottom center and center left pictures. I was looking at it more as a long term install. More llike Mid to Late November to Mid March. If it rains, I won't drive at all, but more as a means to extend the season. Of course I could always go polar bear driving.;)

No holes drilled:

I know Alex can get busy so I'll answer for him. That top is from Ape Products http://apeproducts.netfirms.com/products.htm . Craig Anderson can be hard to get hold of and often runs over promised times but he's a good guy and tries hard. The blue Cobra pictured is the first one I ever rode in back in 99. Craig is Gordon Levy's cousin and was his partner in Gemini Racing. They had a falling out (fists were involved) in 2000 and Gordon went on to form Levy Racing.

Well, that's a lot more than I was gonna post, lol. In addition to what Tom said, it's clamped to the windscreen up front in two places and "C" clamped at the rear of the cockpit right where the back edge of the door opening transitions into the rear opening. It's pretty secure. The side windows attach to the top and are removable and hinged...pretty slick!

Mike, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a present this fall. Hmm. I wonder how far it would be for a road trip. Probably too far. Texas

I didn't care for other 1 just don't look rite I have emailed and want to see if they ever had 1 put on a B&B I am sure I can make it work but may have 1 problem I angled the top of my windshield forward so wind would go over my head. Hope he will sell with no inside coating suspect may have alot of work to make fit and look nice. Just love working with fiberglass Dam itchy *#$%.
