PRESS RELEASE

Detroit, Michigan, USA – In a statement released today by Ford Motor Company, Vice President of design and chief creative officer J Mays announced that beginning in October 2013 The Ford Motor company will re-introduce an updated model of the iconic 427 Shelby Cobra.

Since the early 1960s through the end of their production in 1967, the Shelby Cobra has represented the pinnacle of high performance American sports cars. In honor of the passing of longtime legendary car designer Carroll Shelby, Ford will be producing a faithful update to the original “Corvette-beater”.

The new super lightweight, 2-passenger, open-top roadster will boast a 1100 horsepower supercharged 5.8 liter engine, 7-speed transmission, advanced computer controlled handling system, and Brembo brakes forward and aft, all contained in a 90 inch wheelbase. Initial computer analysis and wind tunnel data suggest that the top speed for the new roadster will easily exceed 200 MPH.

While many production details are still in process, Mays stated that all engines will be produced at Ford’s Romeo Engine plant in Romeo, Michigan. The new chassis will be produced and finished entirely at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan plant. Production numbers will be limited to just 500 vehicles per year.

The new vehicles will be fully optioned with front and side impact air bags, antilock brakes, high performance audio systems, air-conditioning, cruise control, and Ford’s new advanced forward-looking lane sensing driver’s assist. Track enthusiasts will enjoy a three-position ride selection functionality for a firmer and more stable on-track experience.

Potential customers are invited to visit their local Ford dealer on Monday April 1st to place their order. Deposits of 5% will be accepted and a production order tag number will be issued. Customers can expect the new 2014 Shelby Cobra to arrive in dealerships by December 2013, and expect an initial MSRP of just $135,000.

As I began to type a response that included a request for the link to this press release (seeing as how I couldn't find anything at Ford's website or on Google) it dawned on me what day it is. LOL

Nice try Mark. Well layed out, but not biting. Already spoofed once this morning.

Rain on your parade

Hate to rain on your parade, but this announcement is correct. I saw the vehicle about a year ago on a trip to the Ford Proving Grounds just outside Kingman, AZ. Couldn't say anything since I had signed an "NDA". Now you understand why I've drug my feet on building another kit.

The dealer network is really upset with the announcement of only 500 cars, since there are 3,131 Ford dealers in the US. Some are accusing Ford of playing favorites and some dealers have committed to accepting inventory of many undeliverable Ford Fusions, in an attempt to gain favor with their sales reps. Time will tell on this one. Want to bet it goes for more than sticker?

Here's a link to some spy foto's on Car and Driver Interesting how they chose the model to be white with blue stripes - some speculate it's Ford's way of being "anti-Shelby" I guess what goes around, comes around.
