My win on Sunday finally put me into the points lead after I missed 4 events early in the season due to the engine swap. I just need to win 2 of the 3 remaining to wrap up the 2012 championship.

It is taking me some time to get used to the amount of power and torque form the LS engine. I tend to point and shoot which is not the fastest way around the course. I am probably 10 -15 mph faster on longer straights than I was before so the braking points are much different. So far the car has won every event it has been entered in, unfortunately my co-driver beat me a couple of events ago when I coned away some good times.

Here is the only good run I recorded before the battery died:

Bill was having brake problems making the win a little easier than normal. I am sure he will be back at the next event with better brakes.

I must be running a comedy of errors.

I am guessing I glazed the brake pads at the test-and-tune event. The brake pedal felt like being in a covered wagon rolling down a steep slope, pushing that wooden handle to jam the wooden block against the wooden wheel. Push with all your might and still it won't slow down. So it was brake-early-brake-often.

And the rotors were getting hot, 475 degrees hot on a 43 second run. The good news is that the calipers were staying down around 150 degrees, instead of 275. So the titanium shims work. I just need to sand the pads between each event.

I am also thinking I unlearned some of what I picked up, or just turned chicken again. I need another afternoon of shoving the car up against the limit to get brave again.

According to the index points, my best day at event 3 would have been right on your time, a small fraction of a second one way or the other.

I think on paper I still lead on the points, by less than a second place finish. The trend shows I have to keep you from winning any more. And it looks like you'll continue getting quicker. It wouldn't look good if things were going well for me.

I would suggest fixing the pads and testing them before the next event. The championship will come down to whoever manages to win 2 of the 3 final events. Glad the shims worked well, hopefully there will be a market for them.

I was off Joe Florette's time by 1.07 sec and 1.69 sec off Jim Poeling's time.

On event #3 you were off by 2.72 and 3.35 respectively. This tells me even an event 3 performance would have you down by 1.6 sec., but then again on any given Sunday...who knows.

Joe has gotten a LOT faster this year. He was quick last year, but I beat him a couple times. He got new tires this year after borrowing my car last year. He was pointing out how much better the I-Mark stuck down. And that the car would be even quicker if any of us knew how to left foot brake. So he started teaching himself to left foot brake earlier than I started.
So he beat me in my own car, and I may be partially responsible for him beating me even worse in his own car now.

I've been waiting for the rain to stop so I can sand the brake pads, and I won't let the car sit between events this time. I'll have to put some gas in it and drive it some.
