ERA 289.....shot in the dark

So, this is a complete shot in the dark, but back in October 2013..my wife and I were out in our red Italian car, enjoying the night, when we saw you guys at sonic in the valley. We stopped to drool over the cobras, and were lucky enough to be invited to sit in a bunch of them......anyway, at the time, there was a gentleman who had built an amazing ERA 289. While he was giving me a ride in his car, he told me it was for sale, and that someone had shown interest but he thought the deal would fall through. He gave me his business card, which I can't seem to locate.....so.....sorry this is so long winded.....does anyone know if his car is still for sale ? I doubt it still is at this point, but I figured it's worth asking....

On a side note, the intention to join the club has been there since that night, but life has gotten in the way and we've been extremely busy.....is the rate to join pro-rated if we join now, or is it still $50 for the rest of the year ? Thanks for the info.

I am sure it was Jim Dooleys, but it did sell and is out of state now. One of the officers will have to answer the membership issue.

That 289 is gone as Keith said. There is an equally nice Superformance at Fastlane for sale by one our members you can check out. As for the rate, it's a yearly rate, not prorated. Thanks for checking with us.

Thanks guys on both replies. I'll get this membership stuff filled out and sent in....finally....Now hoepfully I/we will be in town to participate in group events...and we'll keep looking for a car....That superformance is absolutely amazing, but a little more than I want to spend right now.

What are your requirements? Do you want a big block, small block, period correct, modern drivetrain, or a mix of both. Tim had posted a link to a really nice factory five with a supercharged 4.6 and many extras. It had a rwhp over 520.

Do you want to build your own, get a partially completed kit or a completed car? Let us know and we can keep an eye out for you. We also have helped members build on their cars when they need sn extra hand if you are interested in that.

Was your Italian car a prancing horse? If so do you know Ian? Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey "TBULL"....sorry for the delayed response....

Right now I'm purely in the information gathering stage. I honestly don't have a prefrence of big block vs. small block. Unless someone has a strong opinion of one over the other that they can explain to me why one is better than the other, I don't care either way.

As far as the different cars, I've always really liked the Factory Five Cobra's and have followed them for years, but also really like the Superformance, ERA, etc....As neat as it would be to build, I travel for work and am out of town for big chunks of time, and when I'm home, sometimes it's for a few weeks, other times a few days, so to build a car would take me a looooong time, and by the time I'm done, would probably cost what a superformance (used) would cost....so, yeah, I'm all over the map at this point, but buying a finished car makes the most sense, at least right now. I was lucky enough to get a ride in Jim's ERA 289, but other than that, I sat in a few cars back in October 2013 when I first met a bunch of you guys, but I have yet to drive one. I have narrowed it down this much, I defenitely prefer a "period correct" car as opposed to a modern one. In fact, I've found a few nice looking cars on the internet for sale, but then they have modern gauges etc...and for me, it's a total turn-off. No offense to anyone that has their car set up that way, nothing wrong with it, just not what I want to own.

I did find a superformance for sub $30,000, but it has a rebuilt title. I'm in discussions with the owner now, he said that it was hit in the front quarter panel, and a control arm and fiberglass body were damaged but have been rebuilt. I asked for pics of the damage, and got pics of the body after rebuild, nothing with the control arm. It looks really nice, now and has all the paperwork, but the rebuilt title makes me nervous, and if for any reason, the frame is damaged in any way, then it won't absorb an impact correctly.....

The car we were in that night was a prancing horse, a 308. I do know Ian and Claudia, but because of my schedule and being gone so much, I haven't seen or talked with them in a long time. I'm not sure if they would remember me or not if you mentioned me to them, my wife and I participated in a few Ferrari events a few years ago, and Ian and I are friends on F.B. but have been unable to get together otherwise......

Thanks for the offers of help, I'm definitely open to suggestions.....

We'll keep an eye out for you. As for a strong opinion as to a small block or big block, that's the only ki d of opinion our members have. :) It's a running joke / discussion topic. FASTLANE, up off of 370 always has a couple of cobras. Dave Williams is a member and has one of the fastest cobras in the 1/4 mile in the country.
Cobra country on the Internet or FFCARS.com has a For Sale forum. Fuel Injection will get better gas milage but carbs work too. We'll try and keep an eye out for you.

I've known Ian and Claude for years now. Ian and I are in the same profession. They are good people and if you have a 308 he'd remember you. He has a 308 GTB as well.

I look forward to meeting you.

I look forward to meeting you, and the rest of the club, also. Thanks for the heads-up on the different websites, I've been going through them for a while but appreciate the reminder. I heard from the guy with the superformance, it sold last night. I figured it would sell quick, even with a rebuilt title since it was sub $30,000.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, I was supposed to leave today to head out of town until mid-August. I just found out I don't need to leave until next Thursday...so, gonna get caught up on some stuff at the house, but also take some time to head out to Fastlane and take a closer look at the cobras they have.

If you are "in town" for the weekend of October 17th / 18th, 2015, you are welcome to join us on a Fall Color Run on one of those two days - looks like it will be the Sunday. Check out the Chicken Coupe forum for details.

Hey "NAJA65", thanks for the invite. Back in August my wife and I went to look at a house she was interested in, on a whim...." ...sure sweetie, but we are just going to look..." well, we ended up buying the house, and since we weren't actively looking, we had a bunch of work to complete on our house to put it on the market...I literally finished the work on the house last night, two hours before leaving town...soooo, I haven't been on the site since my last post, and I haven't joined the group yet, but will when I get back in town in December....Thanks again for the invite....I look forward to getting together with the club next year....

Ken

We'll be starting the year 2016 off with a Party. Keep watching for details.
