Enclosed Trailer

White v-nose is now......mine :D So there is a black one, flat nose there, for the same price, equipped the same...anyone? Bueller?
 
I saw that trailer this past weekend. It is a very nice unit. Easily worth twice the money. Nice looking, great construction (no rivets), very strong build, nice options, and all the right suspension stuff. Nice job bud!

Another step closer to hauling a car. Bought my tie down straps today at e-trailer.com. Bought four of these - http://www.etrailer.com/p-08424/Car...stable-Axle-Strap-2-x-8-10K-with-Ratchet.html and four of these - http://www.etrailer.com/p-E59143/E-Track-2-D-Ring-35K.html

Left my brake controller with them to test. If you remember from Supercruise, I had a slight problem with my trailer brakes. Called about the trailer, they have to install the transition ramp, and will have it done next week. Just in time to pickup Mark's car.

Also, I now have a secure place to store it for free. :D
 
Trailer is ready. Let's see, do I pick it up tomorrow or Friday when I am off work.....:rolleyes:

On a different note - how do you balance the car in the trailer front/back?
 
Balance the load over the axles. That way the trailer does the work, not the truck (if it's front loaded) If it's back loaded, it will sway way too much.
 
Tougher in an enclosed trailer, but you should be able to get very close by the center of the car (front to back) center on the wheel well cut-outs. Trial and error, once you get it the first time, put a mark that relates to something on the car. We used to pull a race car to Pevely back in high school and did it this way, but it was also an open trailer.
 
Start by having the door of the car directly over the trailer axles. That should be pretty close to a good balance. Then it becomes trial and error. Depending on your tie downs you will probably be able to move the car forward and backward without much effort. As the others said, once you find the spot be sure to mark it. Perfect balance for a trailer is having the weight centered in the trailer, this is usually on top of and just in front of the trailer wheels.
 
This may help. This pic is from the CDL test. it will give you an idea, but you still have to find the right spot for you.
 
Ok, let me clarify what answer I am looking for:
- Car is obviously heavier in the front than the rear
- Big Block is heavier than the SB's
- If I have the trailer hooked up to my truck, do I pull in until the truck starts to 'squat' then back it up some?
- Is there a physical way to tell that my weight is centered without a scale on the tongue of the truck?

I realize I need to be centered and to mark it when I get there. I liked Steve's idea of a 2x2 screwed to the floor, and it worked well. Thanks for the replies :)
 
If you are looking for a way to get close. Be sure you are on level ground. As you pull in the trailer will raise. As you move forward the trailer will level then begin to put more weight on the tongue and cause the truck to squat. A good starting point is having the trailer level to the ground. This will be the center point for weight.
 
That 2x2 on the floors a great idea till your in a hurry and stub your toes on it. Find spot and if you a winching in tape on floor, if driving in tape on wall to line up with door edge, you do want some tongue weight at least 200 lbs. check to see what it is unloaded, if close to nuetral hook trailer on truck take yard stick and measure tongue to ground then stand on tongue and re-measure use that measurement if you weigh about 200 - pull car in trailer hooked to truck and start checking tongue to ground again - just like your boat you need tougue weight

I think the big block will be heavier than the small block because of the large tool cabinet located in the front of the trailer for repairs!!
