What are the Pros & Cons of the proposed Health Care reform bill? Are there any "unbiased" sources from which to obtain information concerning the Pros & Cons on the proposed legislation or are information sites going to be biased & slanted by those who disseminate the information? On the Pro side of things what are they, if anything in your opinion & visa versa? Hey Tom is your congressman friend interested in contributing any info he cares to share with us from his informed/insider position? I have heard that part of the bill has spending provisions which will be used to help mothers abort unwanted fetuses. Is this true? I am strongly pro life & I am strongly opposed to any federal funding of abortion clinics or federal funds being used in any way to aid mothers to "elect" to abort their children. On the other side of the fence, I am one of those individuals that will be aided by the provisions of the bill which will require ins. co.s to insure the "uninsurable." However, I am not saying that I favor the bill for selfish reasons. I want what's best for our country, not what's in my self interest. I don't like the timing of the legislation in light of our country's HUGH deficit. I am extremely worried about spending the kind of $ we are talking about as a result of this bill when we have the largest deficit in our country's history. I would like to here from as many as possible who wish to engage in this debate. Let the fray begin.

To be totally honest I am on the fence. We need something done, but I am against the socialist system currently being proposed. Having paid for my own insurance premiums for the last 5 years I can tell you it can't last. For a family of 4 I pay $450 monthly for coverage that only provides for major medical expenses. As an example when my son broke his arm I paid $2,500 and my insurance paid about $300!! I pay for coverage why?

To me the answer lies in the medical providers insurance risks and capping limits on awards. Doctors are leaving the industry just because they cannot afford the insurance anymore. Should an OBGYN have to pay $350,000 per year for malpractice? I say no, but at the same time how do you protect against a $25,000,000 settlement for a birth defect?

Sorry Dave,

This one, like the topics that evolved into fat chicks and gay innuendo will go untouched by me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind them, just don't care to participate. I could end up hurting somebody here who doesn't deserve it in my rage.

Darn that's cheap. The last time an ins. co. would ins. me, my wife & son together about 10 yrs ago I paid $1,200.00 per month for the same type of coverage your talkin about Kid. They started refusing to ins. me so I now pay approx. $600 a month for my wife & son. I have been "self insured" for approx. 10 yrs.

Luckily you have the ability to do that. Many don't. I don't know the answer, but the way I figure it at least it is on the top of the list. The discussion could go a number of different directions. I will say I don't believe it is up to the Government to privide insurance for me, but if we keep going down this path it is only going to get worse.

I propose that we assign a club member to read the entire 4,000,000 page document and then sumerize it in 200 words or less!
How do you spell that word? sumerise? summerise? summerize?
You know, give us the Cliff Notes version....

Any speed readers on board? I'm gonna try to do a little web surfing to see what that yields.

I can sum it up in two words: "Bull Ship"
Health care is not a right given to us by our founding fathers in thier 17 page document.
My cost for my wife and I is over 1g/month...no vision, no dental.

Found this: http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/18/ep.health.reform.basics/index.html BUT it lacked a lot. Didn't address some of the more controversial things that have been rumored to be included, including the funding of abortions issue & whether illegal immigrants will be afforded the same privileges we tax paying citizens are afforded. Help me out here Snakey Guy. What do you here from your congresspersons/representatives?

I hope everyone is aware that the Senate version has 43 new taxes attached.
Just saw where Reid put in 100 million for Louisiana medicare...one time payable(he needs the undecided vote from the Senator from La.
Footnote: taxes start immediatly while the plan does not kick in until 2013.

That's part of the problem with our legislative process. Votes are bought & sold with riders & attachments to bills that benefit the particular district that a congressman is from who sells his vote. PORK SUCKS. Found this too: http://www.consumerreports.org/heal...are-reform-guide/health-care-reform-guide.htm

Consumer Reports is so biased...all thier info comes from suscribing members for surveys.
The products tested do require the mfg to pay a fee...I think Sherwin Williams paint is never in thier tests for that reason.
CR is my wifes bible for buying electronic devices.

AARP: I am a member but do not know why. They are 100% behind anything this admin wants to do for health care....they are definately not looking out for the 50+ dues paying members. I think it was on Fox, but they are in line for $18mil grant to study or record something.

I really don't know who to believe or trust.
My tact for upcoming elections '10-'12 is not to vote for any incumbent at the state or federal level. Don't know how else to get the deadwood/career politicians out.

I'm hoping nobody goes into a rage. I admire & respect you & was hopeful that your friend & congressman could help all of us with the issues on Health Care "reform." I quite frankly don't know what is in reality included as part of the legislation & I would like to know. I've heard that it will be mandatory that all employers shall be compelled to pay for & provide health ins. for their employees. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? If you choose not to participate that's OK. I just wanted to debate the pros & cons of an issue with substance & which is of course highly relevant & timely.

BTW Some us of choose to have our fun in ways that others consider to be silly, immature & childish. Some of us feel like a nut, some don't. Some like mounds, some don't. That's OK. Were all not the same & that's OK. I don't dislike or ridicule those that are different then me & hopefully those that are different then me reciprocate by doing likewise.

I have a brother that is a doctor at green county memorial in xenia ohio orthopedic surg he has friend that practices in canada - the problem will be the word FREE long wait times ( we have all seen this in the media ) he states get ready for the shock of your life and it will be worse in large populated areas. he fears the system would be greatly abused

Oh, no doubt it will be abused. Any system is abused. There will always be loads and loads of dishonest people trying to find a way to get something for nothing. The problem is that there is just too too many to use a real good way of examining each case and judging it by its merits. Plus, there are so many opinions! Look at the current debate on when and how often women need mammograms. I know my wife's breast cancer was caught at 50 and was already metasthesised. A two-year wait might have given it time to spread even more and may have cost her life.

If you could just count on people being honest......

I liked the cnn synopsis. Of course in editing any long document to a shorter one you have to wonder what was left on the cutting floor. Probably started as a 100-page reasonable document until the pork and compromises started to be added.

Maybe I already said this, but when I was growing up we did not have health insurance. But things were reasonably priced. Thank goodness because I was always getting hurt. Going to the doctor's or the hospital to get stitched up was usually under $100. A broken bone was also around $100 if it was a simple fracture.

What are costs now? I spent about $5K just at the dentist the last two years. My semi-annual checkups at the doctor and cardiologist are thousands if you include the tests they insist on. My medications are "only" about $300 per month, and almost all are generics. It sure is expensive just staying alive in the U.S.

Typical. Make fun of someone if you can't do anything else. Like someone said: The congress is too busy trying to keep the other side from accomplishing anything.

Karl:

If "accomplishing anything" includes further expansion and intrusion of government into our lives, then I say - do whatever it takes to stop them.
