Just got back from Jeff city and got my car title and Vin# paperwork done, It was easy, I was the only person in there. Anyway I have 2 questions 1.. Do I need a State Inspection and 2.. Can I get my plates before my vin number gets attached and I get my title in the mail. Seems like someone said yes but I cant remember for sure.

On the inspection - how is your car titled? 65 Ford? I'll let others answer, as I don't have experience, but, know this question will need to be answered.

Safety inspection? No if its historic, yes if its not.

If it's the 551 form inspection, I had to get that inspection before I went to Jeff City to apply for a VIN and title. So, I'm guessing you would still need the car inspected by the trooper station to get a VIN. Also, only a officer at the troop station can attach a VIN plate.

I went the historic plate route and I could not get the car registered without the title in hand and a VIN on the car. They wouldnt use a title receipt to register the car. That step turned into a 2 month fight...

Hope this helps, seems like everyone has a different experience.

If you are going to have regular mo. plates you will have to wait for the Vin number to be attached to the car before you can get it inspected. They take a picture of the Vin plate attached to the car, and you have to get inspection before plates. Don't know through process for year of manufacturer or historical plates. Hope this helps.

If you get the historic plates, no safety inspection...... EVER. :p (and they don't have to be RENEWED)
a club member (I don't remember who it was) has a website to get '65 stickers, so there are actually multiple years plates that can be used.
Also, you only need rear plate!

Yes, Larry is the guy to talk to. Look up Larry’s license plates and give him a call.
