I really need some help on the cruise for Thursday night. I think Fast Lane is a little far. I really don't think there will be many people but we advertised it so I need to be prepared to do it. Is there a quick 1 hour cruise that we could do on the east side? Could some of the club members help lead and even plan this part of the event?

Thanks for all the volunteers. Clois and I really appreciate your support.

I will be there Thursday and Friday. I will not be able to make it Saturday. This was the comprimise I made my wife for allowing me to drive this year. Our 10th anniversary is on the 10th. I am sure we will be having a nice day and expensive dinner somewhere else on Saturday(I would guess she will need to shop also:eek:). Sorry guys.

Dean, what time of the cruise? What type of cruise do you want to have? I would be happy to help on this. Just need to know what is expected.

After looking at the map, a 1 hour cruise wouldn't really allow for a twisty road type cruise, would take too long to get there.

The River Road...............

is one of the obvious best choices for scenery, BUT if its in the evening it will be getting dark fairly early that time of year. A possible fun suggestion not very far away is Bobby's Frozen Custard in Maryville, IL. Great ice cream ala Ted Drews & neat 50s atmosphere. Perhaps cruise somewhere 1st, then end up @ Bobby's afterwards. HINT Google Bobby's Frozen Custard.

I saw a story on TV that the River road is closed. They are trying to get repairs done by end of October, that is why I left it out. Ice cream in early October, maybe.

How about a simple cruise over the poplar street bridge, along the riverfront below the arch, down market street past union station or Washington Avenue then back on 40 east over the river.

Thats a good idea. How do we handle the traffic lights that might split the group?

Not sure..................

Your info. on the River Road closure is correct. The Alton Telegraph article I saw about a week ago said closed for 2-3 weeks. Might be re-open by the time Runngun gets here.

Rng

I plan on being there Thu, Fri & Sat.
Let me know what I can do...I am mailing my overdue membership registation and money today!!!Sorry for the delay...found it on the bills to pay stack last nite.
What kind of deal on the rooms at Aztar???

River Road Closure

Newspaper Article 9/18/08 Alton Telegraph: About 4am Wed. IDOT closed River Road from Gafton to IL. Rt. 16 near Hardin due to flooding. The section from Alton to Clifton Terrace Rd. remains closed for repairs. Both sections could reopen as early as this Fri.

And what does this have to do with RNG? Went back and found what this had to do with RNG. Sorry Dave.

Dean, I really haven't thought about this too much as I need some additional parameters.
1) What time would the cruise depart
2) How long should the cruise be

Here are my thoughts - Where the track is located makes it tough to do a short cruise and keep it interesting. Cruise to Fast Lane or Chuck a Burger is too far. Cruise to Alton is too far. Cruise to Downtown Lebanon is too far. I consider too far as taking an hour or more to get there. If the cruise doesn't start until 5 or 6, if you travel somewhere an hour away, count on two hours cruise time. I will post something over at RNG.net and see what feedback may be.

Guys, there is a chance we might start the cruise earlier and make the cruise for spectators and some drivers who want to give up their last session. I will talk to Clois and post something here later today.

The cruise should start at 4pm and should last no more than 2 hours. The rest is up to the club. I really appreciate the work you are doing. Call me directly if you have questions. 618-322-6046

OK 2 hours - starting at 4pm - how about a run to:

1. Chuck A Burger (or Fast Lane) and back.
2. Drive the entire 270/255 Loop with a meal stop somewhere
3. Fairview Hts / White Castle Run

I was thinking about CWE or Laclede's Landing or Old St. Charles - but all of those cobblestones - fugetaboutit.

Anyway - let's go GCC - need a couple of more ideas.

Let's think about this:

4 PM, on a Thursday = RUSH HOUR

Highway 40/64 is still shut down through the central part of St. Louis.

I'd stay away from major highways.

Just my thoughts...

Take em up to Gafton & back & end up @ Bobby's Frozen Custard in Maryville, IL. which is 5 to 10 mins from their rooms in Collinsville.:cool::cool::cool:
