1/4 mile in 13.8 sec.?
Any of us could easily beat that . . . even the big block guys!!
In reality, a new Mustang was about $2200. This Cobra was a pricey ride back then, but I always have wondered if there was ever ANY depreciation in the early years. You know, like picking up a '65 for $4500 in '67 or something along those lines. Or could you buy one at $7495 and sell it the next year for $8500??
They depreciated. You could buy one under $5K if you wanted. I think the coupes sold for $800 each after racing in Europe, and I had the opportunity to buy a '65 GT350 for $800 from a neighbor, but I was a broke kid at the time. Still am.
In Sept of '65 I ordered a 1966 Vette...plain jane with 300hp 327 4sp am/fm radio...
That back when new model years was a big thing...you could order it the way you wanted.
I had no idea how I would be able to make the payments of slightly under $100/month but I was making $100+/ week working for Shell Oil research department in Woodriver.
Anticipated del was early December. Price was about $3800 if I remember correctly.
I got a nice letter from the fed govt that started something like this: Greeting and Salutations.....I told the dealer I would not be able to take delivery and he said no problem they would be able to get rid of it.
I went home on leave at Christmas to my future ex-wife to be's parents house. There in the driveway was the Vette I ordered..her dad had bought it and wouldn't let me drive it.
Danny, see I lost my head early on in my gearhead career but I recovered...there is hope for you.
