Quite a story.... Cheating in NASCAR

I used to like Waltrip and Bowyer. Neither cheater has my respect. Millions of dollars on the line here, I would expect Jeff Gordon's sponsors to file a lawsuit. Bowyer should have been penalized enough points to knock him out of the chase. I wonder if the FBI should get involved? Like any sport, if you throw a game, they get involved (Black Sox) I would expect more out of this as the week unfolds.

The sad thing is, I would guess this is not the first time it has happened. My guess is NASCAR wont let anyone outside come in and investigate. This sport looses me more and more every year.

NASCAR is becoming the professional wrestling of motorsports. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened, but it may be the most flagrant. Further, it would not be beyond comprehension to find out that the owners decide the race before it ends. I once filmed a program for a monster truck event - and they did pick the winners and losers.

I'm sure that there are many behind the scenes conversations regarding various outcomes of a race or races throughout the season. There is simply too much money on the line for these outcomes to be left to chance. It's simply a matter of greed. NASCAR is no longer an honorable competition. It is an advertising platform, which by it's very nature demands certain and guaranteed results.

I'm not sure it's cheating, but at the very least it's not honorable or honest. But, your White Sox comparison is compelling. Also, I'm not sure if Micheal Waltrip actually new anything about this. I would be surprised if he actually had a hand in orchestrating any part of this.

Either way, NASCAR is more like the WWE everyday.

I agree with Steve, but there would still be collaboration between teams.

Steve is right on, and there may still be some, but try talking a guy that hasn't won in 38 races to throw the race when he's in the lead... Vegas bets on these races just like baseball. Advertisers go with a certain driver and pay millions to do it....how would this not be fraud?

Greed has taken over the sport. Now with lower TV ratings and lower attendance the crazy stuff is just beginning. Why do you think ESPN wants out of it's contract early? Advertisers are screaming, and corporations are making less ROI. The teams will do anything to keep their clients happy, and if that means throwing a race or two - so be it.

NASCAR is no longer about competition or sport - it's about return on investment.

If you listen close at interviews at NASCAR events it's all about the SHOW. This doesn't tell you something about the competition. Thats all I'll say

Rick:)

Haven't watched a race all year, but do keep up on websites and sports center!
