Cardinals and mark mcgwire

I don't know. I guess I remember it differently. He never hit for average, but that wasn't really his job. I also remember that at the time he was up front about the supplements, not steriods, he was taking and at that time they weren't banned. I think alot of americans had lost their appeal for baseball after the strike that was two or three years before. Baseball was in a slump and here comes Mark McGuire to St. Louis and hitting towering home runs. Should he have taken steriods? Did he take steriods? I haven't seen any conclusive proof. I was there the night he signed the contract and hit the Post Dispatch sign and they had to put a band-aid on it. I think Mark and Sammy got us feeling good about baseball again and that was worth alot. I guess I'll give him a pass until I hear of a drug test he failed while playing.

On a side note, I think my senators and congressman have better and more important things to be worrying about than baseball. How about all our tax dollars they've wasted on this little fiasco. The only good thing about it is Barry is gone. Never did like that guy.

The only "proof" is from a known liar who wrote a book about it. Mark possesses all of the physical features a steroid user would, larger body, larger head, larger arms.... all things that could also be attributed to an aging man. Do I suspect he did? Yes. Do I have proof? No. Will he talk? The ownership and the manager says, "yes" he will talk about it and address the issue. Not sure if it was a stipulation on him coming back or not. Will the media be all over him, I'm sure they will, but the year he hit 70 they were all over him too. All I know is, the Cardinals DID NOT HIT the last two months of the year. Someone wasn't coaching them during this time properly. Just as a pitching coach has a game plan depending on the hitters the other team has, a hitting coach must coach his hitters on how to hit a particular pitcher. Although, the pitching coach can't control the lineup, it seems baffling to me the trouble the Cardinals have with left handed pitching. Shouldn't matter at this level.

Something else to think about, was this signing an attempt to get on the fence players with contracts expiring to sign? New players to sign? We'll see.

Good point on the signing of players. He was always noted for helping or trying to help get other players to come to the Cardinals. Whether he did or not on the steriods, you still have to be able to put the bat on the ball and when it's coming at 90 plus, I'm told it looks like an asprin. He seemed to be able to hit it.

Personally I don't care. He was the only one that did the right thing and retired. I think every team should be allowed 2 players that pump steroids. How much more fun would it be to watch when you know one or two players in the lineup are going to hit a 500ft homerun or start a fight with the fans:eek::D? Afterall, Jose used to go into the stands to fight:D.

In reality, there is no proof that he used steroids. Why bring it up?? Only because it will sell headlines. The fans only care to win, which the Cards couldn't do in the home stretch. If I remember the stadiums were packed!!! We loved the show. The club even gave ol' big mac a vette for the show. Who didn't suspect he was using?? Look at his rookie card then when he retired, he was a poster boy for steroid use, but everyone looked the other way until Congress got involved.

I say welcome back! My view, he was always a class act and represented himself well while here. As for the argument of him being a .263 hitter. Tim said it best in that his job was not to hit for average, but power. The real point to ponder is what would Albert hit like if he is juiced up?;)

as of today hes still not here jack clark brought up a good point after being gone for 9 years you would think he would be here jumping for joy and get here quick hmmm.
