Can you id this engine?

Ok, what kind of block? Guess I never knew Ford put their dizzy's in the back :confused:

If memory serves me right they have only 3 main bearings. Just checked with yahoo it has 5 main bearing - tho ford did have 1 v-8 for very short time that had 3 large main bearings, can't remember what they used it in.

That engine is a "Y" block. First ohv for Ford.
1955 272ci
292 came out in 1956 along with 312 in Tbird
They had pistons the size of coke bottle and the rod was longer than your ()*^
No RPM but fair amount of torque.
I played with all of 'em at one time or another. They were indestructable.
The one in the pic is probably a 272(very small carb)
 
Yep, 272. Why were the exhaust manifolds installed that way?

Why is it called a 'Y' Block?
