If I have a Smartcamber digital camber tool, is it necessary to have the car on a level surface? The tool has you calibrate it beside each tire to zero it out. Then measure camber. Would this give you an accurate reading?

Tim the measurement is from the reference point of your surface the car is sitting on. I think it will still be accurate, but would try to find something as level as possible. Only needs to be level side to side not front to back. I think a larger issue is that flatness of the surface you set it on the zero it out. If there is the slightest wave in the pavement it would really throw off the zero point. Try laying a brake rotor down on a flat spot and zero on that. The rotor is flat and has a larger contact surface than your tool.

Tim,
At Hunter, we always reference camber to a level surface. I agree that you should find the most level surface possible. Let me know if i can help.
