So my son closed my hood on the jumper cables, without disconnecting them I might add, and caused this -

Anyone have body experience?

Ouch

Tim,
You're looking at a hood replacement, I doubt a painless dent repair could fix it. The edge of the hood has a metal seam for reinforcement, and once it's bent, you're done.

It would cost more to flatten, bondo and repaint than what a new hood would cost.

I bet you're looking at a couple thousand and a week without the truck.

Your comprehensive insurance should cover some of it, but you have to consider deductible and whether you want to turn it in or not. I'd question the bodyshop, "how much if I pay in CASH - Green ones?" I bet you'll find different prices.

May I make a suggestion:

Avalanche winter mod:

Battery relocation to the rear...

Sorry, that was below the belt, but couldn't resist.

That sucks, what Paul said.

My ex Fisher Body School instructor could do wonders with a 2x4 and rubber hammer.

The right body man could fix that well enough that the average person would never notice. The problem is finding a skilled bodyman who would rather do an "adjustment" rather than a hood replacement.

If you can find a shop that does a lot of repairs for new and used car dealers...they often are very experienced in the cheap shortcuts used to get trade in cars presentable without the dealer spending a fortune.

Paul - replacement, that's what I'm afraid of.

Kerry - Totally agree. Will see what I come up with tomorrow.
