Anybody else going to make it. Sunday is supposed to be very nice. Can't wait as my car is better than it ever has been.

I try to get there at around 0730. They will tech your car in grid. So just show up and get in line for registration. Find a helmet if you don't have one, and get your numbers on your car. You can run either XP with me or cam-s since you have an interior and street tires. You would win cam-s as you will be the only car in that class. In XP you will get beaten by an Isuzu. Main goal though is to have fun and slowly try to go faster each lap without screwing up.

Here is the official timing of the day: http://www.stlsolo.org/info

Don't forget that this event is at gateway. http://www.stlsolo.org/

Can't wait to see you run!

Had a good and bad day today. Beautiful weather and a fun and fast course. I was running well and the car was amazing except for some wheel hop under hard braking in the rear. I kept dialing out more rear brake to get it to stop to no avail. On the last lap I pushed the car really hard and crossing the finish line it pushed back. The front U-joint broke and the driveshaft thrashed about until I got the car stopped. I got the car on the trailer and back in the garage ok but I may be out for a while to get the damage repaired.

So here is an amazing lap with a horrible finish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8ZWXwyMH-8

Good run! Driveshaft loop? If so, did it limit the damage at all and I assume you are ok?

Tim unfortunately I had no hoop. Thank the Lord that I am ok. The car can be repaired fairly easy. I had always meant to fabricate one but could never come up with a way to do it that I liked. My thought was that there is a lot of metal between me and the front of the shaft that would keep it from getting to me. Fortunately I was correct as the 1" steel frame in that area kept it from protruding into the passenger compartment. However the tip was able to rip a 2-3" hole in the passenger side aluminum. It did not touch the seat though.

As a side note. I had a young lady from Columbia that is staying with my friend Gary (Co-driver) that had been riding in the car with us most of the day. She is a foreign exchange student. On this last lap I had asked her to get out as I was planning to really step up my driving aggression and would feel better if she was not in the car. Boy was that a good decision considering what happened less than 1 minute later.

I have a driveshaft hoop. I'll take pictures next time I have it on a lift if I don't already have I pic. I'll have to look. Great looking run.

Well I got the car lifted and taken apart last night. The damage to the aluminum is worse than I thought. The rest is about as I expected. I had a hard time getting the yoke out of the trans so I am hoping it is a problem with the yoke and not the output shaft. As you can see in the pic it is simply a broken u-joint.

Considering the thrashing the driveshaft did I am not sure I want to reuse any of it. Thinking of have a whole new one made. Opinions?????

Aren't driveshafts typically balanced? If so, it would appear that one has enough damage to cause some vibrations. Looks like it also bend that 3/4" tube cross brace some. Whew....lucky

BFH and a little duct tape - where's the problem :p

Ok you caught me! That is why there is not more damage. I basically made a driveshaft hoop out of Gorilla tape. I peeled it off before taking the pics.
