I was looking over the specs that Mike posted from Road & Track about the original Cobra 427. There are some surprises for sure.
106 MPH in the quarter. I might even be able to do that. But the old beast had 70-series bias ply tires.
77 MPH in first gear! 113 in second. I guess that means he finished the quarter mile in second gear!
Test weight was 2890 lbs. That must include a (very) heavy driver. Curb weight 2530. That is 360 lbs more test weight than curb weight. Were there two people in the car? That curb weight is about what a Superformance weighs with an FE engine. That seems pretty heavy to me for an original.
I would bet that most of the club members' cars have better performance than this original.
