10/10ths Motorsports at Putnam

I've begun planning 2011 track days and kind of want to get a feel for anyone else that is interested. Steve is just itchin to get the new Lotus on a track, and soon. Steve, 10/10ths will be at Putnam 4/2 and 4/3, but weather is still really iffy then. MVP is at Putnam 4/16 - 4/17. In talking to Jeff Kleiner, he thinks the May date 10/10ths has, May 7 and 8, would be best to make sure weather has cleared. Makes no difference to me, the 10/10ths is an HPDE event and is $105 more, however, if you haven't been on a track before and want to get the most out of the event, that is the way to go (Dan). MVP doesn't have instructors per se, but there are experienced drivers there that instruct for other events, they just aren't as hands on as the HPDE instructors are.

Thoughts?

Also, want to try a different track like Joliet. Dates for that are 6/6 or 8/8 and is $250 for the one day.

Then, there is RNG, any thoughts on going to that this year or Tulsa? I think I can pull off 2 track days along with the South Dakota trip and vacation, just hoping more get involved in 2011 :D

The 10/10ths sounds good for me, but it may not be the best for you and Steve. I really am a novice at the track, so the instructors should help. I'm probably good for 2 sessions per year max. The rest of the time is just enjoying the car on the backroads and with family and friends.

Ok Steve, you need to chime in here. You're the one that really wants on the track early, thoughts? Dan, I really think the HPDE event would be best for you to start off and you will learn a ton. Let's shoot for the 5/7 and 5/8 dates at Putnam with 10/10ths. Any others you want to try?

I'm for the May 7 & 8th event. I just looked on line for the cost. I can do that. I also talked to Gary and he said I could borrow his trailer if he wasn't using it. I'll have the truck and it's transmission checked out this winter and a hitch installed so I can safely pull the car so weather won't be an issue. I also talked to Mike about his Serpent Express. either way I'll get the car there with Ashley too. I'm looking forward to it. I'll register later next year I guess around March for the may event.

Well, I'm out for Putnam this year. The extra money I'd saved went to replace the transmission on the BMW I bought. 3 weeks out of warranty and BAM! The dealership I bought the car from is trying to help with parts and labor at cost, but I just can't justify doing the trans and spending then more money for a day driving. I'll just be doing cruises this year and taking my co-pilot around. We still plan on going over in April to watch you guys though. I just thought I'd be up front about expectations for me. Tim, don't wait for me on Putnam in May. Now you can go in April if you want!
