    2013 STLSCCA Event 4

I managed to eek past the JDM CRX by a half second, but some guy showed up with a Daytona, beat me by almost three whole seconds, and took all the class points... I took another glance at the CRX, and that thing has a bunch of camber and there are aluminum cowl braces visible through the wheel...

CRX and 2011 #12 index driver in XP

Both the CRX driver and myself were unable to improve on our morning times during the afternoon session. It looks like 1/3 of the drivers did their best time during the morning, and chased themselves without success in the afternoon. I was picking up over a second a run during the morning, and...

CRX and 2011 #12 index driver in XP

The CRX has the 160 HP Vtec engine. The suspension on this car was different from the US car, and he described it as the double wishbone suspension from the Integra Type R. He has a set of Japanese coilovers, probably single adjustable, and with a narrower range than the Koni/Bilstein stuff...

CRX and 2011 #12 index driver in XP

I talked to some people at the tech / lot cleanup today. The CRX is the Japanese import, right-hand-drive car. I did not know his name, or that he was also racing a Civic. I also did not know he had been a high index driver. If he had not changed his plans, he was not going to do anything too...

CRX and 2011 #12 index driver in XP

This one looks a little more concerning. 2011 #12 index driver in G Stock with a Civic Si. Ran last year in Street Modified FWD, three events, not as quick as the 2011 times. Now registered in XP with a CRX Si. Every possible part available. Easy engine transplants. Lots of information...

Mike - I saw this on Lotus Talk ......

I was wondering if these would be run by SCCA, NASA, or another club, and what kind of certification/license they might be requiring to make sure not to put first timers, kids, or the drag racer demographic, out on course. I may have found out...

Mike - I saw this on Lotus Talk ......

Last year the pay-extra-to-not-work thing was tied in with the MU FSAE students, something like "Pay a student to work for you". They have had fund raising things previously to pay not to work. The Pro Class entry may or may not be something like run two heats and not work, I have no details on...

Mike - I saw this on Lotus Talk ......

Just making sure to point out, this is not Mike, this is the driver who races against Mike. OK, on the subject of safety and accidents... If you declare a ship is unsinkable, some bright captain will go out and ram icebergs repeatedly just to make sure to prove the ship can be sunk. With...

Mike - I saw this on Lotus Talk ......

Probably worth posting the links, because some of the responses there seem to provide both sides of the discussion very well: The original quote is from: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f3/well-i-ruined-autox-125107/ Another earlier thread on the same topic...

"race prepped turbo Dodge Stealth joining us in XP"?

Impreza STi weighs 3,300-3,400 pounds. Lancer Evo weighs 3,400-3,500 pounds. Both have huge amounts of available racing parts, lots of tuning information, and proven records in Street Modified classes. Both would be more worrisome. AWD, with anything other than a clutch pack differentials...

"race prepped turbo Dodge Stealth joining us in XP"?

Rick's car falls into the category of someone with years of experience building a crazy car. Not much of it is original and all of it has been purpose built for autocross. A lot of the chassis stuff on that car seems to be in the kit car parts source lists, there has been some motorsports use...

"race prepped turbo Dodge Stealth joining us in XP"?

Without knowing any specifics, my reaction runs along something like this: Th curb weight is up around 3,800 lb. and power at 320+. It's AWD (?) so there would be more drivetrain loss. It is designed for luxury high speed (interstate) use. The transmissions are not strong enough for more...

2013 Event 2 in Arkansas, and I'm Not Going

Last year was a comedy of errors for both of us. My tires gave out at the exact point you had your car ready to race. I spent the second half of the season adding more power and wondering why the car was getting slower and slower. By the last event, I was driving on ice skates, and you were...

2013 Event 2 in Arkansas, and I'm Not Going

I submitted a letter to the region board commenting on the miserable weather and complete bs scoring (regular region events score from top finisher, Arkansas events score from top region member). They have seen fit to schedule 2013 event number 2 for Arkansas. The rule for scoring reads: On...

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

I washed the car twice this morning, so we should be standing in ankle deep water all weekend long. If I wash it a third time, we get frogs falling from the sky. Hope that secret weapon includes pontoons and some windshield wipers.

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

The fuel pump arrived yesterday. Over the weekend, I made the bad decision to scuff and paint the top of the tank, mostly to seal the little rust spots. The paint blistered. Stripped and repainted yesterday, no blisters. Today, I soldered wires and plugs, reassembled, reinstalled, clamped...

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

Somebody with influence seems to be dead set on me not going to Arkansas. I ordered the fuel pump three days ago from the website that said they had it "In Stock". I asked for a tracking number this morning and was told that they were waiting to receive it from a supplier before they could...

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

So far, lots of green copper wire and the pump seems to be intermittent when connected directly to the battery with test leads. And how long it will take for a replacement to arrive from Indiana. It will go back in with new wire, gold terminals, and a weatherpack plug. The car burned out at...

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

The econobox may have figured out how important the next events are, because it decided to remind me about Murphy's Law today. For about a month prior to Event 10, I had been chasing a electrical gremlin. Every once in a while, the engine would stop running and the main symptom was the tach...

Mike wins Event 10, leads Class Points

5 1/2 seconds behind first was 8955 points for Event 10. 3 3/4 seconds behind first was 9153 points for Event 9. It's going to depend on course length, but it looks like somewhere around 4-5 seconds back is the limit, if and only if you also finish ahead of me.
