The last operational landing ship from WWII is going to be docked for tours in Hannibal on September 15-18, 2023. This ship was also part of the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944!

Since last year's day cruise to Hannibal was a great success...thinking we do a Saturday or Sunday run to Hannibal and tour the ship!! (y)

Sounds like a plan and return trip...Tony, can you round this up?

I served on one of these in Mekong Delta South Vietnam 67-68’ …. LST 515 / Caddo Parish

That will be an interesting tour. I wish I could see it. I saw the battleship Missouri when I was in the service as it and another one were anchored in ?Bremerton, Washington and it is now in Hawaii as a tourist attraction. Those ships were amazing to see and the guns were awesome.

There is a $15 charge for the ship tour unless you are a WWII or Korean War Veteran, in which case it is FREE!
The tour, some guided, some self guided, takes about 35 - 45 minutes. All proceeds and donations go to keeping the ship afloat and open to the public for tours. This is a D-Day invasion participant! Hope you can attend this cruise and tour with us!

With Tony's car out of commission for the foreseeable future, and Paul and I out of town, anyone want to step up and lead this cruise to Hannibal? Route is also yours to plan. Reply below if you can. Thanks

Maybe first question is who is available 9/16 and interested in going?

I'm out of town 9/10-9/14 so will miss our 9/12 meeting which details of the cruise plans should be given and reviewed?

Yes indeed, Ol’ Caddo Parrish named after a parish in Louisiana hull 515, built in 15 days during war days, was also in fact in Landing At Normandy in 1944. Speaking of Normandy, I and Barbara personally have been there twice…I even have a crystal box on out mantle holding “sand” for the very beach! A very cool place to visit, to stand in the German bunkers and walk in the craters created by the bombs dropped… and look down on the beach landing…. A memory for ever….

Looks like this is a huge bust…oh well, disappointed, and no not interested in leading, what’s RICH think? Participation seems lacking at best….?

Vacations, work and family time all play a part. If some can't lead due to this, that isn't a bust.... It's a bust if others refuse to lead or don't step up. 🤔🤔🤔. Shouldn't stop those that can and want to go.

To bad you can't get organized to go. Those old ships are very interesting to go through. I have been to the Battleship Missouri and a couple of old destroyers that are now anchored in various places as tourist attractions. If you ever have the chance to go through one of then old Battleships by all means do it.
