I think. Was talking to Rich and Keith about a squeak I have only when I make right turns coming from the passenger front. Rich said to check my upper control arms to make sure the ends rotate easily on the ends arm (the piece that mounts to the frame). When I removed the adjustable arms, I could hardly rotate them at all. I removed the control arm mount, then removed the snap rings, and was able to eventually get the ends off. I found some rust and dried grease. Also found the grease zert clogged with old grease and it wouldn't allow new grease to enter. Once I cleaned all of that up and got new grease in, the rotated smoothly. Found pretty much the same on the driver's side, but not quite as bad. So, thanks Rich and Keith for pointing me in the right direction on this repair.

Also found my rear end leak I think. 4 of the cover bolts were loose. Tightened those and will find out if my leak is fixed this weekend.

Question - a bad PCV, how can you tell?

three things:

1) take it off and shake it, you should hear the poppet valve inside rattling around.

2) with the engine running, take the breather cap off and hold a piece of paper over the tube or opening. There should be enough suction (vacuum) to pull the paper onto the opening and seal it. No suction - No PCV

3) when you remove the PCV from the tube, it will create a massive vacuum leak. If that doesn't happen, suspect blockage upstream.

The valves are very cheap. Often easier to replace than clean.

Hope that was the trouble, but even if it wasn't you will notice a difference in how the car handles and rides.

Also if you find you are seeping oil from just about every gasket... suspect that the PCV is clogged and building up crankcase pressure...
Seen this in a lot of fleet stuff..

So, if I can blow through the PCV, that makes it bad too, right? Mine is hooked to the carb for vacuum btw.

PCV is nothing more than a glorified check valve. It uses a calibrated spring to keep the ball/poppet on the seat under a given amount of pressure/vacuum.

You should be able to blow/suck thru the valve in one direction and not the other. But beware, the spring is very light tension so it can be deceiving. Also, the taste of oil/grease is not pleasant when you try it :D
