I got a ticket Saturday for not having a plate on the front of my Charger. You would think that having 20 years without a ticket I could get a warning but no, officer By The Book wouldn't hear of it. With all the intersection cameras going up, they are cracking down on the plate thing. Not sure if it is everywhere but they are here in Ballwin.

Thanks Mike. My car came from Pennsylvania and doesn't even have a place to mount a front plate bracket. I guess I'll be looking into drilling the bumper cover soon :(.

Front plate

1 ticket by mo state patrol and warning yesterday ( 6/21/09 ) by florissants finest. So looks like i will put it on now

That is the reason I went with the 1965 historical plate which I just got today. No front plate.

Bummer, I've been running without a front plate on my Camaro for 12 years without a single issue. My car doesn't even have a place to mount a front plate, Looks like they've got one more thing to harrass us about.

sorry to hear they wouldn't cut you a break.

Is this a discretional thing for police officers? Can they decide if you need a front plate or not? Does it depend on municipality? I certainly don't want to pay any tickets, but have never had a front plate and do not want to put one on unless necessary. My Cobra is licensed as a 1965 Ford Cobra. Does that alone mean that it is exempt, or ?????? I'm really confused. Good topic for Snake N Eggs.
:confused::confused::confused:

Actually, we do have a lawyer on retainers (sort of.) What does our mouthpiece have to say on the issue???
:D

By law, all MO vehicles do have to have a front plate. Believe me - I was quoted the very ordinance once by Officer Friendly in Wildwood once. Got one the next day. Now with those FN stop light cameras - they'll be enforcing that law with a new ferver.

Well... Friday night I got a Ballwin ticket for having a tinted cover over my rear plate. Officer nothing better to do didn't notice that I didn't have a front plate but was going to write me a separate ticket for not having an up to date insurance card until I found it while he was writing up the tinted cover ticket. I guess that days of getting a warning are over, damn, I always felt like such an outlaw with my plate cover. I went home and removed the cover from my car and both covers from Linda's before installing my front plate so I can go have an officer verify it and pay my $24.50 court cost. I hope Officer Robison can find some real crime this week.

Sorry to hear that Tom, sounds like they are cracking down. (glad to hear crime has dropped so much that they have time to pull over honest-tax-paying citizens )

Well, I'm just asking for double trouble, no front plate & a tinted cover in the rear.

Guess I'll be changing the cover in the rear to clear. I put it on because they were out of clear and some low-life-bastad stole my renewal sticker last year and broke my license frame and bent up my plate getting it off! (fortunately, I had my brand new / unused front plate & sticker! But had to buy a new "Chevy Racing" frame off of eBay) More of a pain than anything and just P'd me off they'd tear it all up for just a sticker!

But I would recommend folks to be careful about them stealing renewal stickers. I cross-slice mine with a razor blad and put a plastic cover on my plates now. I also don't park downtown anymore.

Do vintage plates have to have a front one too? I heard they didn't.

:D

I'll see if I can find some time to research the issue when I return from Colo. BTW I got a warning ticket for no front plate on the river road cruise MikeW, Mark & I went on. Sounds like Mo. is being a lot more strict than ILL.

It's a form of renewed revenue for cities that are feeling the recessionary pinch.

Almost glad we are not in Ballwin anymore to have to deal with this :(

Ok. I've been laughing at you guys in the big city:D about this. Well, that is until yesterday. Got a warning from Linn Creek's finest(we don't have many). Told me he wouldn't worry about putting one on, but I will probably be stopped more. Anyone remember the thread with the hidden plate that Mike D showed off?
