Just an FYI...

I sent the application, documents, and picture of my YOM plate in to the MDR.

They send me back everything I sent them (except the picture), and a receipt showing payment and a complete application with all the boxes checked, but no explanation other than that. I looked through it three times, and there was nothing to indicate whether my plate was acceptable or not, whether it was in the system or not, or anything of the sort. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Jeff City trying to talk to someone who knew the first thing about it, got frustrated and stopped trying.

I saw a local cop stopped on the side of the road, and I stopped and got out to ask him to run my plate #. Yep, came back correctly registered to me as a YOM plate, but I would have had no idea otherwise. You would think they would stick a form letter or something saying whether it was acceptable or not, but no... Sort of frustrating, but I'm legal now when I get the car back...which is nice...

Yep, they are pretty screwed up! I agree 200%!

When I submitted my application (via registered and signature required Postal Mail), they signed for it and lost in INSIDE THE BUILDING (they SIGNED for it, then LOST it). After waiting for a reply and several phone calls, they told me I could FAX all of that information in (D'oh!!!!!). I faxed it in, they told me the next day it was completed and registered.

A month later, I received a mail from them telling me my application was Rejected because the license number was already registered! (yeah, by ME!!!)
I called them again just to verify I was legal. Glad that frustrating nightmare is over. It REALLY doesn't have to be that hard, but they manage to find a way.
I think I was working with Mr. DuMass!

Does anyone know if front plates are required for YOM plates? It actually says on the application "may", however it only asks for "a picture of THE plate"; leading me to believe that in this one case only a rear plate is required, but it is sufficiently murky that they could probably interpret it any way they want.

I do actually have a front plate as well, and bought one of those mechanical, hidey plate holders for the front.

Year of manufacture would be 1965, in 1965 they only ran 1 plate, so you can't run 2 even if you want to!

? How do you have 2 plates? (as Keith said, they only made 1 that year).

I was stopped (for speeding) and he asked about my front plate, but obviously didn't have a clue what YOM plates were. He let me slide on the plates because he didn't understand Year-of-Manufacture, but I did get that speeding ticket. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm still looking for a source for the plate. I struck out every place I look. Any idea's on getting one?

Yes. But I'm not posting about it. Ill tell you what I did at the meeting.

You know what? I've got an extra. It was my backup plan. It passed on the personalized plate website, and it should be good to go. I'll bring it to the meeting.
