What freedoms are you talking about Karl? We have to do something to stop these idiots & if that means I get stripped searched at an airport because a security officer believes that I look suspicious or I am acting suspicious then I say so be it. I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the sake of stopping these fools. The alternative is that we let these fools on our planes & in public places with the fear that we're going to be bombed or gassed because we are more concerned with protecting our personal liberties & lack of gov't intrusiveness than our personal safety. I say hogwash. I say lets suffer a little for the sake of stopping these idiots. BTW I'll bet if we turned Kerry (& like minded guys) loose to hunt down ole Osama Bin Lamibad he'd get that B______. :D

An update from Oklahoma :

Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9, had a few liberals in the mix, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values....! HB 1330

Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen. They all scattered. HB 1804. Hope we didn't send any of them to your state. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU, they said it would be a mistake.

Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegals to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional. SB 1102

Several weeks ago, we passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not under the Federal Government directives. Joining Texas, Montana and Utah as the only states to do so. The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns. Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a set back for the criminals (and Obamaites). Liberals didn't like it -- But ....

Just this month, my state has voted and passed a law that ALL driver's license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. We have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of our road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English. Really simple.

By the way, Obama does not like any of this.

Any proof of the rest of that long list? I'm sure it was just an accident that you made it sound like all of this was in response to Obama.

The enemy in this country are the people that believe the fruits of my labor belong to them.

And - yes - a civil war will break out if the tide doesn't turn quickly.

The first changes to the new Constitution will be -
if you don't pay federal taxes, you don't get to vote in federal elections
All members of Congress will be limited to two terms

Then pill boxes will be installed along the souther border. A no man's land will be established. Anyone or thing in that zone will be killed.

I, for one, am unwilling to trade my liberty for some supposed "safety". The additional security measures put in place since 9/11 have done nothing to make us more secure. All they've done is inconvenience innocent citizens and negatively impact the travel industry.

The harsh reality of the situation is that no amount of security can protect us from an individual that is willing to die in order to commit an act of terrorism. Despite this, we still need to make reasonable attempts to prevent acts of terrorism.

What I think needs to happen is -

No one with a passport issued by a Muslim country can enter the US.
Profile - if you look like someone from the Middle East - you get pulled aside and thoroughly searched prior to boarding the plane.
Periodic monitoring of all preaching in Mosques in the US. If any reference is made to committing acts of violence against the US, shut it down. This particular religion does not deserve the freedoms enumerated in the Constitution.

I absolutely love your comments on what you think needs to happen. They have demonstrated that they are hate mongers who don't deserve our freedoms and they should NOT be permitted the privilege of becoming U. S. citizens.

However, I've got to disagree with you & Ben Franklin on trading liberty for safety. I for one believe that the enhanced security has helped protect us but I also believe that Mark is correct that our security failed miserably in this instance. Unfortunately you are however right that no amount of security is going to protect us 100%, 100% of the time with these idiots. But as you stated we must nonetheless make the effort.

You guys have to take it down a notch. There's plenty wrong with Obama, but blaming Obama now for this weekend's events is like blaming Bush for 9/11, or Clinton for the USS Cole or OK City, or Regan for Lebanon. There's simply no connection. You wanna bash Obama - start a new thread.

For that reason, the government should not impede the free exercise of religion, speech or gathering. So, battling these terrorists becomes a tricky problem for sure. It's a very slippery slope for the government and for us.

Today, we are wanting a crackdown on terrorists because they mean us harm and it's for the good of the state. Tomorrow, the government will tell us that to have more than 1 child is harmful to the state (and the world) and you'll be sterilized. Or, CO emissions are harmful and they'll take away our cars. Or, eating beef, smoking cigarettes, or carrying guns is harmful and they'll remove them in the name of the state. Then they'll say that talking about the government is harmful - and shut down the press and even this very site.

Freedom of religion, speech, and association is at the very core of our existence. Cross that very small, very thin line and all bets are off.
 
That's a long LEAP from be willing to suffer through strip searches if necessary, to stop these idiots to the conclusion that the gov't will then begin to take away all our freedoms. :eek:

How bout this: We do away airline "steward-persons" & replace them with armed security personnel. Passengers are allowed to take beverages & food on board as is now permitted & do away with the stupid serving of beverages & snacks. No one will be permitted to spend an inordinate/excessive amount of time in the lavatories. Create "holding cells" at the front & rear of planes where passengers who are "arrested" by security personnel for suspicious activity will be detained until deplaning occurs.

BTW Maybe the key word we are failing to acknowlege in Mr. Franklin's words is "essential."

BTW II Only Steve, Kerry & I have offered suggestions on how to change things. Sorry Kerry your stuff/ideas are too radical for me. :D

Quick idea:

Take some of the stimulus money and put 5 air marshalls on every flight. Increases safety and reduces unemployment.
