We are going to try using free weights as a known source to calibrate the weight scales. To do this, we will need about 600 lbs of free weights (larger are better, you'll understand why)

We will also need a good supply of manual labor to load/unload the scales to be calibrated.

Can you post here, your willingness to participate and also the amount/size of weights that you have that can be used for the project.

It will probably take a couple hours to complete, will need multiple willing bodies and probably do it on a Saturday morning.

Any Takers?

Paul

Uh stupid question here. We only are using the 4 individual small square scales, correct? Wouldn't it be easier to take them to the weight than the weight to them? Does anyone have a gym membership where we could do this? I'd be willing to check at my gym. The owner is a car and custom bike guy, so he might go for it.

I have 2-45#,2-35#,2-25#2-10#=230#,Now I just need someone to carry them out of the basement after they are broken loose off the floor as they haven't been used in some time. :o
This Saturday is out for me but the following will work.

I checked at work and can borrow weights from work, these are 50lbs ea. have a handle to lift and stack together. If this is something we want to do I will get 12 together and weigh so we will know what we have. I can get them for a weekend but I am busy this coming weekend.

Rick:)

That would be ideal. What about Saturday Morning, July 21st after Snake N' Eggs.

Mark Earls has offered his house/drive to do it. We can calibrate the scales again and also maybe do a few cars if anyone wants

Paul

Yes - let's make that official. I have a long level driveway, some tools and a jack and stands. I'd like to get my car fine tuned.

Paul, we already know that one scale is out of whack. Is there a way we can fix it that day?

Ok, I'm missing the hardware box. I didn't receive it when I got it from Dean at Hallett. Anyone know where it's at?

Repairs

Mark,
I'll get the one scale from Tim this week and work on freeing up the stuck leg

Tim,
I suspect the hardware box is in Dean's trailer or still at Hallett. We'll need 16 3/8" x 1" bolts and nuts. I can cut some new wood spacers.

Is there a day that works best for me to pick up the scale with the bad foot? I'll be out of town till Sunday late.

Paul

Time?

Mark
What is the schedule for this weekend? Time & locations?

Weighs OK

Weights are under control. Rick(33ratride) is bringing 12 50# weights they use at his employer for some form of calibration. We just need some strong back/weak mind types to move them on and off scales as we do the calibration.

I've repaired the feet of the scales and purchased new hardware to put them together. Will have them over to Marks house (Eureka, MO) for the event.

Just printed a new set of blank forms so we should be good to go to adjust/trim a bunch of cars. Bring your favorite pad to crawl on since it will be on rough concrete

Waiting for final instructions on time and where to meet

Paul

Thanks Paul. Sounds great. BTW: I joined the club. Mark should have my application and dues by now.

A great day at Mark's. Started with a good breakfast (although expensive....they use golden eggs at the Old Pancake House ) then on to Mark's for some weighing in of new cars. Had Matt, Bob and Jason on the scales for the first time and I think they will probably need the scales to finish their setups as some were limited on time after SOMEone left the calibration instructions at home, not naming names.....Stinky Le Pew :D

Mark performed the most adjustments on his car getting his crossweights near 50/50 while keeping his ride height that he wanted. Funny thing on that - He needed more weight on the Right front, less on the Left Rear....so, naturally we adjusted the Right Rear to achieve this.....um, what?! Yes, that's the one that worked, still doesn't make sense to me, but it worked.

So, at this point, Mark has the scales if you need them, set it up with him. I didn't get on the scales as I told Mark until he can pass me without a point by, I feel my car is setup just right :p

Thanks for a fun day. I know it wasn't a cruise - but it was fun. It was great to see Bob and his Hurricane, new guys Jason and Matt, and Tim, Paul and Jim. Everyone came ready to work and we really had some fun.

I got a lot of good work done on the car. Everyone was so helpful, and eventually it all paid off. After everyone left, I finished up putting my car back together, and then removed the carb and started working on it. I removed my jet extensions, re-set my float levels, and I drilled a new receiver hole for my linkage to finally achieve 100% WOT, I also put the old link-bar back on the car. All went well.

That link-bar (3 to choose from) is the little gizmo that opens the secondaries at either 40% of WOT, 60% of WOT, or 1 to 1 with the primaries. I had been running the 1-to-1 link bar for the past several months. I call that the "fun link" because the car just scares the hell out me when I touch the loud pedal. Basically, when using the 40% bar (which is recommended) the secondaries don't open till about 4000RPM, so I never really get the chance to really feel the car pull.

Anyway, when I put that 40% bar back on last night and took the car for a test run - it was quite a yawn. So, the fun-link was re-installed this morning.

Now, I'll need to get a new (and more assertive) wheel alignment done to match my final suspension set-up, and a dyno tune to match the fun-link - probably some different jets, and dizzy re-set.

All in all - a very good day.

Sorry I missed the event. I was busy preparing for the race today. I still need to weigh my car at some point and get it set after the major weight shifts from the new engine.

How far off were the scales? I am wondering how many of us have screwed up cross weights because of the scale issue. They are still probably better than I did with my naked eye swag!

For those of you that couldn't make it: Good news, the scales were recalibrated yesterday so they should be accurate.

Also: Mark, thanks for hosting the weighing party. I had a great time.
