Two of my neighbor friends are going June 9th to Autocross at the Family Arena. Is anyone from the club going? I'm thinking about doing it. What do you guys think? Would this be a good one to go to? I've never done this before.

I'll need to get a helmet, register and figure out what class I would be in etc. I don't have much time seeing as how we are leaving for a vacation tomorrow.

They have helmet you can use, Tony if you still have your motorcycle helmets any it's up to date that will work. You can learn a lot about your cars limits. Maybe I'll run.

I never wore a DOT helmet when riding. Stupid I know!!! Thinking I’ll just go buy one. Do you guys recommend a full face or open face? Or will I need a full face? That would be awesome if you came out Rick. Anyone else interested?

I don't think you can buy a helmet that is not dot approved. Date code is what they will be looking for.

The open/closed face question is up to you. If you're doing autocross only with no road course, I would go open face. If you have future plans to put it on a road course, I would suggest a full face helmet. I get lost on the parking lot, but may come watch.

Some reading for you - https://www.daymotorsports.com/info...le/difference-between-a-m-and-sa-rated-helmet

You will want the latest SA rated helmet for your car.

Well I was reading through the rules today. Not to sure they will let me run now. The roll bar says it has to be 2" above your helmet. I put a board across my windshield and roll bar and my head touched without a helmet on. My seat is bolted to the floor and I pulled the cushions out. I do have the breeze roll bar that is a little shorter. But I don't think I would even have 2" to the factory five bar. I'm not even tall. I just have a long torso and big bubble but. Errrr...... Crap.... How strict are they at enforcing this kind of stuff?

Not strict on autocross typically. Rick... You've ran with them, right?

I would drive up to tech with your helmet off. Slump down in your seat as much as possible. Get out while they inspect the car. Shouldn't be a problem but you never know.

You park your car in tech line, put helmet in passenger seat, open hood and trunk. They didn't look at me in car. Can't see a problem Tony.

Had a great day at the autocross, good times

Thanks Keith and Tim for coming out. Thanks Rick for running with me. I felt more comfortable with you all there. Theresa said she like that better than on the road. Less stuff to hit. :)

I'm sure you're times improved throughout your session. Did the car handle better or worse than expected? I found my old car handled a much tighter turn at speed than I expected and when it broke free it was managable. I learned a lot about the car.

Times did improve. I actually expected the car to be faster. But my times were only a few seconds slower than Rick's. Couldn't believe how fast some of the little foreign cars were. Definitely way too much power for that kind of racing. I did learn a lot and want to do some more.
