"Social Security"

Here’s some info many of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) may not know. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,

Now 7.65%

3.) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

4.) That the money the participants put into the
independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
general operating fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,

Under L B Johnson the money was moved to

The General Fund and Spent

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton & Gore

Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away' -- you may be interested in the following:

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democrat - controlled House and Senate.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democrat Party.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -----

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?

A: The Democrat Party, with Al Gore casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving
annuity payments to immigrants?

AND MY FAVORITE:

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democrat Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!

------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- ---------

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of
awareness will be planted and maybe changes will
evolve. Maybe not, some folks are awfully sure of what isn't so.

But it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
-Thomas Jefferson

And yet some wonder why so many conservatives look at the Democratic Party with such distrust and cynicism.

We see so many well meaning, conscientious people support the Democrats...and we scratch our heads in wonderment. Not that the Republicans have done much better...but there is so many problems we are left to deal with today as the result of Democrats with "good intentions"...

I think every politician should be required to study and then present a public presentation on the History of Good Intentions and Laws of Unintended Consequesnces.... Perhaps they would be more reluctant to enact legislation that, in the end does more harm than good.

I agree Kerry. However, politicians on both sides of the fence have made well intended mistakes. I believe the war in Iraq is a mistake & that the one in Afghanistan likewise. I would be in favor of a covert/clandestine operation to take out Bin Laden & his buddies. (Wanna volunteer Ker?) :D Too many lives lost & money wasted without enough meaningful return in exchange in respect to those wars. Most of those people hate & despise us. For the most part things will go back to the way they were after we pull out. Saddam Hussein will be replaced by some other bonehead. Sorry if that was an OT rant.

Dave,

The problem is if we don't fight it overseas...we will be fighting them on our own streets. I don't think anyone besides the terrorists want that.

Having witnessed first hand the terrible destruction that occurs in a war zone....You do NOT want that battle to come here.

Mistakes were certainly made by previous administrations, but the cold truth is they had a choice to either fight the terrorists there...or fight them here. They had no other choice. Pacifism means nothing to people who train their whole, short lives to die in order to wipe us off the face of the earth.

These people are dedicated to killing us. We either defend ourselves or they succeed.

Great Orators of the Democratic Party from the Past

'One man with courage makes a majority.'
- Andrew Jackson

'The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.'
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

'The buck stops here.'
- Harry S. Truman

'Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.'
-John F. Kennedy

And for today's Democrats...

'It depends what your definition of sex is.’
- Bill Clinton

'That Obama - I would like to cut his NUTS off.'
- Jesse Jackson

'Those rumors are false .... I believe in the sanctity of marriage.'
- John Edwards

'I invented the Internet'
- Al Gore

'The next Person that tells me I'm not religious, I'm going to shove my rosary beads up their ass.'
- Joe Biden

“America --is no longer, uh, what it--it, uh, could be, uh what it was once was...uh, and I say to myself, 'uh, I don't want that future, uh, uh for my children.' ''
- Barack Obama (without his telepromptor)

'I have campaigned in all 57 states.’
- Barack Obama

'You don't need God anymore, you have us Democrats.'
- Nancy Pelosi (said back in 2006)

'Paying taxes is voluntary.'
- Sen. Harry Reid

'Bill is the greatest husband and father I know. No one is more faithful, true, and honest than he.'
- Hillary Clinton (said back in 1998)

You can add one more to the list: Pelosi recently saying (TWICE!) that "If the Stimulus (Spending) Package is not passed quickly, then 500 million people will lose their jobs". Since there are approximately 280-290 million people currently living in the U.S. , total, I would assume the remainder she is referring to are illegal Mexicans and all of the Chinese who will lose their jobs if Americans stop shopping at Walmart.

So this thread started out about gun law treaty - and now it's a war & politics thread.
OK - I'll play. Just my own .02 - not trying to sway anyone.

Politics - I don't think either party has the balls or the know how to get us out of the mess we're in (financially). I'm afraid that the we are on the verge of a very wide, deep, and bleak financial collapse - and as a result a social collapse.

On the wars. I think the mistake was on Sept 12. We should have nuked Afganastan that day and reminded the world what the definition of a super power is. We opted for a PC war - just find some bad guys and kill 'em. That's a posse - not a war. We gave up our ace. "Total War" is what we do best and we took that card off the table. Now, every 2-bit thug thinks it's OK the to take a poke at us. We should have nuked Tora Bora - and we blew that too. Look we're not going to make any more friends in the screwed up world - why try. BTW - do you think that the Iranian president will have the same restraint when they finally get their bomb? NOPE - he won't waste 10 freaking seconds. Once Iran gets the bomb - Israel is gone with minutes. Do you think that Al-Quaida will have restraint when they get a nuke? Again, NOPE. All of these problems that we are facing today, Iran, Iraq, Afganistan, Korea, China, Venezwala, Islamic radicals, and all of the rest could have been solved on Sept 12th with a single “reminder” of why you don't mess with Superman's cape. Just MY rant. Sorry if it freaks anybody out.

OH - I almost forgot - Happy New Year.

WOW this is scary, but once again I find myself agreeing with you Kerry. :D Your right it obviously would be better if we fight on their soil rather than our own. I still don't think the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan are worth the sacrifices being made notwithstanding where we fight the war. I totally agree with your last 2 sentences.

Mike you continue to amaze me & crack me up. Actually I think Bill said "It depends on what the definition of is is." Did Joe really say that? Hillary wasn't the first nor will she be the last to "believe" that to be true about their politician husband.

Mark Define what you mean by "social collapse" please. Using nukes is EXTREMELY dangerous for us. If we use them first, they will too. Do we really want that? The book of revelation could come to pass very quickly if lots of nukes are imploded nearly simultaneously. If any of those goof balls are so stupid as to use a nuke then we should retaliate in kind, but we should not be the 1st to go there. IMHO.

Not a problem when we go OT....it usually generates some good dialoge..which means we are constantly thinking about what is happening in this confused(read as f/u) world.
