I will not be able to attend the meeting on Tuesday due to my work schedule. Maybe we can discuss some of the topics at Dave's or CAB tomorrow.

I like the 4:30 idea but I think it is important for Clyde to be there so I thought I would see if a different time would work for him. If he is out no matter what time then lets do it at 4:30.

Meeting

I am sorry but Tuesday is totally out for me. A close friend's mother passed away and we will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening. I will be out of town starting on Wednesday and lasting for a week and a half. I will have my cell phone and laptop on my trip so please feel free to contact me.

I'm sure what ever you guys come up with will work out fine and I will support what ever the group settles on.

My thoughts are:

We have already published our flier which everyone had an opportunity to critique prior to distribution. The flier stated no trophies and did not list a swap meet.

This is the "first annual" car show and we are facing many unkowns such as participant attendance, GCC membership support and weather. Any one of these can ruin the success of the show and result in a financial disaster. ( I know this to be a fact as the Easter show this year was a bust due to the weather. We put a lot of time and money into the event and ended up with nothing to show for it.)

Our treasury is still in the infant stages and we can not afford major losses.

Trophies are always nice but there are issues that need to be resolved. I am not sure what type of vehicles we will attract or how many. If there are trophies then classes must be determined, number of trophies per class, how will the event be judged (GCC judging or participant judging).

What about insurance? Who is covering our event and are our officers liable?

We need volunteers to cover the gate, cover registration, judging (if trophies), handle the swap meet (if included) and clean up. I'm sure Gateway expects the parking lot to be as clean when we leave as when we got there.

My thoughts are based on the KISS philosophy. Let's host the show and shine and see how it is received. If everyone thinks that $15.00 is too much then let's go down to $10.00. A dash plaque, an opportunity to see kit car drag racing and an opportunity to meet with kit car and accessory vendors - sounds like a good deal to me.

Liability issues.................

When U incorporate one of the primary goals of doing so is to INSULATE the officers, directors & shareholders of the corporation from personal liability for the acts of the corporation. Furthermore I can assist the Club in drafting a waiver of liability form to be signed by all attendees of the car show as a further means of protecting "us" from liability. BUT, that being said, nonetheless, insurance is still a necessity unfortunately. With all of those things in place, we would be hard pressed to do more than that. Hopefully that is enough. BUT again U never know in today's litigious society!

I agree with the KISS philosophy. There will be people that are upset about the lack of trophies, but we received complaints at the Easter Show this year even though we had trophies. I think the guy was upset that we didn't have a class for his El Camino. You can't please everyone. I think we need to start with a simple show, see how it goes and build off of that in the years to come. All of the great shows started small and grew over time. We need to focus on having everything run smoothly. Once we have the core car show down we can start adding trophies, swap meets, 50/50, giveaways, etc and make this the show that everyone wants it to be.

I think the best thing to do is to "interview" the participants and see what they would like to see the following year. Maybe even do some of that Sunday at Fastlane.

I was reminded that I am attending a retirement party with my wife tomorrow at the MAC from 5-7 PM.

Count me out for the meeting.

I will be a helper bee for this years show, so just let me know when, where and what you all need me to do.

Great Runngun Meeting Tonight..............................

Members in attendance: Dean Lampe, Paul Proefrock, Mark Earls, Mike Wooley from McLeansboro, IL., me David Virgin, Chuck Grbich, & Kerry & Kathy. Great discussion! Respectful exchange of ideas. Expect to hear more from Mark later. EDIT BTW I sat across the table tonight from Mike Wooley tonight. Great Guy! He drove his "British Racing Green" Cobra to the meeting from McLeansboro, IL. He was asking how to keep rain water out of the floor area of his car. I told him to get in touch w/TommyB Kaiser.
