I wanted to start this thread to pass along all of the crazy car stories we've all heard. You know the ones - like my uncle knows a guy, who had a "real" Cobra in a barn, or I was riding in one on Kingshighway in 1970 and we were going 180mph, etc., etc. We've heard so many of these - you just know they're all crazy.

So - I'll start it off.

I'm at Sonic the other night waiting for Tim when a landscaping guy and his sidekick pulls onto the lot pulling the appropriate trailer. He and his buddy hop out of the cab of the truck and make a b-line to me and my car. We exchange the usual Cobra banter - you know - Is it real? Is it a 427, etc., etc? I offer to pop the hood, and he was thrilled to see it, and said so. Meanwhile, his friend is on his cell phone about 50 feet away - and I can practically read his lips saying - Sonic in Chesterfield, and it's a real 427 Cobra! As soon as I pop the hood - he hangs up and heads over to take a gander too. I go on about my engine (as I do - you know 588, etc, etc) so far, nothing unusual - right?

Now, the crazy part. He tells me he's having a BBF drag motor built for him right now - expects it any day. it's a 700 something cubic inch making 2100 HP and he's putting it into a 1967 GT500 and making a drag car. I laughed politely, and asked him if he knew how much that car was worth without the fancy engine? He said yes, and went on to explain that he had to stretch the front clip by 6 inches or so to fit the motor in and re-rake the windshield. Astonished at this point, I laughed politely again, thinking OMG - he's going to ruin a $150K car.

Crazy - not even close.

Then he continues ... he has ANOTHER 1967 GT500 - WITH A JET ENGINE. He regularly makes 348 MPH passes in the 1/4 mile. At this point I'm stunned - and waiting for the next shoe to drop. Wait for it - here it comes. He says he's from Perryville - and he says he has 8 more mint condition 1967 GT500s! I'm like "Wow - how did you acquire all of those cars?" He says he found all of them - IN BARNS! Yep - various barns in and around Perryville, MO. Now, I'm hooked like a big Missouri catfish. So, I ask Mint condition? Yep. I ask do you ever sell them. Nope. Why do you have these cars?

He says - I have 8 daughters - and each daughter gets one!

I never knew landscaping could be so profitable.

OK - now let's hear some of your crazy car and Cobra stories.

Iwas returning from my annual golf outing last week...just East of Atlanta I came upon two cars that were really close together...both were late model 4-door midsize vehicles. I thought the one in back was drafting .....it turns out the one in back was pushing the other car!!!! AT 70 mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both drivers were layed back in seat with thier ball caps on sideways and very lackidaisail(sp).
The best part was, after I passed them I looked in the rear view mirror and the fools were passing a semi..
Wish I had taken pics for u-tube.
