I was at the Pilot Knob July 4th car show and Black River Armory had a vendor booth where they were selling raffle tickets for a Barrett model 99 single shot sniper rifle, and lots of other goodies. Selling 400 total tickets at $25 each. Proceeds benefit Wounded Warrior Project. Drawing will be held when all tickets are sold. I have no affiliation with Black River Armory, and know nothing more about them. Here's a link to the raffle. Gene

Was going to purchase a ticket, but there was a $10 'fee', so it was $35. Never mind

That's very strange. I guess the fee doesn't post until you go to check out. I bought a ticket in person, so no fee. While $35 can still be reasonable, its a shame someone feels a need to skim money off what is essentially a charitable contribution. Gene

Edit: I emailed the shop and made them aware that the fee is costing them participants in the raffle. I'll post here if I get a response.

Gene,

Appreciate the link and the heads up...but people need to be aware that Wounded Warrior Project is a scam. Less than 39% of the proceeds collected go to wounded service personnel. And even then...only current era veterans. The remaining 61 % goes to salaries and administration costs.
Vietnam era vets have been turned away by WWP saying that they do not qualify for benefits as WWP provides service ONLY to veterans who served after 9/11.
Funds from WWP have been also been paid to anti-gun organizations to support gun control advertising rather than veteran services.

Far better organizations are The Patriot Foundation or Camp Hope where less than 5% goes to administration costs and NO management salaries are paid.

The thought and effort is admirable... and Black River Armory is not at fault for trying to help veterans...they just chose a scam to support rather than a charity that helps all veterans.

WWP used to be the charitable organization that the Texas Cobra Club supported. That ended when they showed up at WWP's headquarters with a $15,000 check and promise that it would be matched by one of their wealthy members without acknowledgment from the organization's head. They also found out what Kerry stated above. Sad to say it, but, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a charitable organization anymore.

Black River Armoy's response.

Gene,
I want to thank you for bringing that errant charge to my attention. It has been fixed and will charge the correct amount now. The charge that my website was trying to charge is for new firearms sold online and picked up at the store. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused and invite you and your friends to revisit out website and support our raffle.

Thank You
