AT&T U-verse

Anyone have this? Your experience?

We have it now...

Excellent picture...better than any previous service. No interruptions. Very good customer service. And they have the Outdoor Channel. It's just marginally more expensive than Dish Network but would have been about the same if we had gone with equivalent channel choices. (we upgraded)

We have had:

- Dish Network...OK service....but only average customer service and NO Outdoor Channel.

- Charter Cable...TERIBBLE unreliable service...and even WORSE customer service...A billing nightmare...AVOID

I've had it for over a year and it's my favorite. Had Charter, then Dish for many years.

Their standard broadcast looks better than anything else I've seen and HD is fantastic.
I have 5 set-tops and seldom have a conflict (except when multiple people are watching HD at the same time).
I LOVE the DVR, record all of my favorite Car shows, watch them later and fastforward thru the commercials. And can now watch anything I record on any TV in the house.

I had their slowest DSL (which seemed just a little bit better than my previous ATT DSL), but they upgraded me to mid level DSL and I don't really see an improvement. Most delays are at the website. How fast do you need email? I generally don't stream video and when I donwload something big, I just start it and come back later.

:D

Speed of the internet connection is very important as I work from home 80% of the week. Right now, my 10meg Charter service has been very good and mostly reliable.

I have 3 HD set's in the house. You saying HD is only available on one at a time?

I don't remember what it currently supports (I know it's changed / improved a little since I signed up), but there was a limit. If you're recording an HD show, that counts too.

I also like being able to watch a show and rewind back if I missed something (or my lovely wife was speaking and I was trying to listen to her ), even if you're not recording the show.

or listening to ur loving wife
thats selective hearing isn't it:D
kind of like HD but better

Cable? Satellite?

What are those? I just upgraded from Analog broadcast to Digital broadcast. Went from 7 channels to a whopping 13 clear, digital channels, with some programming in HD. Is this something new?

So far...so good

I switched from Charter to U-Verse 200 last Friday, and so far I am completely satisfied. I do not have HD but the data speeds/consistency are impressive. I chose to upgrade one level (to Pro?). My test results at speedtest.net are very good. Almost 2900kbps up and almost 900 kbps down.

The downside was a 4 week wait for the install, about 6 hrs for the guy to do it, and I had to massage the computers a bit to make everything work wirelessly the way I wanted. The installer was nice, but not an expert by any means. He did give me his personal number for problems and 3 wireless cards as free upgrades. Also got new copper wires run to the pole for my existing landline phone. Pretty good service, I think.

I particularly like the web interface/program guide for controlling my DVR.

As I understand the wireless, as long as you have 802.11G card, you should be ok. I ordered the 450 package with 10mbs down, 1 mbs up speed. With two teenagers in the house and their online games, it eats up a lot of bandwidth.

Are you getting this just for the internet? Let me know how you like them. I don't like Charter, but they are the fastest internet connection in my area. DSL is not available. Yet. The minute it is, I want away from Charter.

Not JUST for the internet. Currently I have phone, internet and cable through Charter. I also have DirecTV. Total bill for all of this is about $260. I am going to cancel both, move to this and be just a tad over $200 for all three services. I know, it's a lot for monthly "entertainment" and will be the first cut if I need to. Right now, don't need to. I'm mostly happy with charter internet, but just didn't see a need to pay for cable and satellite. I'm hoping I can downgrade on speed and keep the same speed as charter. Cable internet as you know, is shared, U-verse is not. We'll see, they come next Friday, the 13th

Surprised being in the wireless phone business Tim, that you still have a landline at the house. We dumped ours over a year ago and have not regretted it one bit.

Charter is frustrating, every 3 - 6 months they change their rates with us, and Michelle calls and tells them she is canceling the service and they give us some new offer (we only have their Cable DSL)...service is okay but I've already gone through 2 of their modems in 3 years.

Linda wants to keep it. The only calls we get on it anymore are telemarketers and 6 insurance companies when SOMEONE (to remain nameless) clicks on a link that says "insurance rates too high?"

ATT on the way. Will post something later, IF they get me hooked up.

U-Verse

My mom just spent four days without phone service. Absolute nightmare trying to get it restored. Waited in the cube (online help service) for 2hours and was disconnected. Waited in cube another 3 times for a total of 6 hours. Spent the day on Sat. at my house on the phone a total of 4 hours still no luck. Did get to talk to a lot of people in other countries and states though. Sunday, another 4 hours on the phone at my house....and still no luck. Service repair man to come first thing 8am Monday morning per the supervisor. Well the tech showed up a 10:30 since when he called the phone no one answered. How are my parents supposed to answer a phone that doesn't work..dah. So they came back to my house to call and let them know they were home and waiting. Not a thing wrong with the phone...someone had entered the wrong amount for bundle service. Now you would think that the 19 people who she talked to that were sitting in front of their computer would have noticed that the service had been temporarily shut off. She also had a credit of 165 dollars on her account since the last repair call the service tech drug dog poop all over the house. They could have taken that and applied that to the bill. The whole problem started when they bought the package and paid for it, it was the wrong price. Just a little heads up, the repair guy told my parents to switch back to their old AT&T plan...which they did immediately. He said too new, and too many bugs to work out.
