Anyone here do such a thing? I would certainly do it myself, but I just don't have the time. The crankcase filled with fuel earlier this year and I did an oil change. Today, the motor got real sluggish then died. Checked the oil and there was none to be had. I filled 'er back up and now I'm sure the rings are toast. I think she was rattlin' a little bit too. Makes a great mosquito fogger, but I really need it to cut grass instead. Otherwise, what would it cost to have this done? Might check into the HF engines too if they are still available. Thanks,

Alex

Last one I rebuilt was in High School. Thinking I will practice on one of my own first :)

I have rebuild small engines when I was much younger. Here is the best advice I can give you, dont even try, especially if you ran it out of oil and toasted the rings. I never once had a B&S survive a rebuild for long, they just arent designed to be rebuilt. It is cheaper to just get a new engine.

Throw Away

Alex,
The B&S motors are throw aways - but often what they are bolted to are not. You'll have to evaluate what the replacement costs are. If the motor is a universal type and you can buy a replacement, that is your best avenue. Whether it is B&S, Kohler, Honda or Harbor Freight, there are a lot of options.

If it is one that is proprietary to your machine, and the replacement of the machine is high $, then you have to weigh all the options

Thanks for the heads-up. I wound up finding a 15hp Tecumseh that looks like will fit just fine. The throttle connections and everything else look to be in the right locations. It's a craigslist purchase, so hope it does alright. I've always heard things bad about tecumseh motors, but it should get us by in the mean-time.
