With no car yet again, figured I’d download and start learning Putnam Park for possible trackday next year with Tim and the group :D

Studying the track, running laps, watching videos.

Watching your video Tim, good lines.

Do you know what caused your spin in T1 (off gas weight transfer, brushed the brakes, brake bias, gear change, etc)? Great to see you pushing after.
Did you try flat out on the T6 kink?
Did you try different lines in T8 (close vs wide)? Watching some videos, T8 close was faster but seems if your in too fast it'd push mid-exit.
How did the Cobra react going over the curbs?
Going into T10 did you brush the small curb on the leftside as you turn into apex?
They mention T3 is off camber but I don't notice in the sim, was it obvious when you ran the track?

Excuse the questions Tim, very lucky/beneficial to know someone who has run the track :)

- What caused my spin... - Bad entry in to turn 1 resulted in pinching the car down beyond it's comfort level and away we went. I just entered the turn too early.
- Yes, flat out from 5 to 6 and very heavy braking in to 7.
- Yes, the line is a pavement seam line that you follow through 8. You enter a lane over from the candy, then hit the candy to a turn out at the exit of the motorcycle loop, then flat out to turn 9.
- My car with a solid axle get's pretty upset over curbs if I hit with rear tires. When I hit the lower candy exiting 10 onto the straight, it helps my car rotate better.
- Turn 9 entry sets you up for 10. So, you swing left to the candy entering 9, turn in and in real life, there is a bump on the right side between 9 and 10. When you hit that bump, if you hit it right, will wash the car out to the candy on the Left side (entry to pit) where you then turn right to hit the candy to the right out of 10. As mentioned, many times, you kicked up dirt or mud coming out of 10, but, they have since widened that area to allow lower turn outs on to the straight.
- NO, Turn 3 is not, but turn 4 IS. Exit turn 2 left, then roll in to the throttle out of 2 to enter 3. 3 is pretty fast, but, can set you up for failure entering 4.
- Turn 4 is off camber from middle out to the right of the turn. The line is to enter mid lane, brush the candy to the left and turn out to the candy on the right between 4 and 5. Some cars can take 3 on the off camber side, but, my car seemed like it wanted to slide off there. And really, the instructions you show are pretty spot on from actual on track experience.

What times are you turning? With street tires, my fastest was 1:32. With slicks, my fastest was 1:29.

Big thanks for the feedback Tim. Front feels floaty and I'm braking at 200 marker at T1. Going in too deep into T1 and brakes lock up and pushes you wide missing apex. Think I'm going to stick with what you said start mid - then stay tight in T4 till trackout. I feel like there's a crest on T8 exit as you start to trackout. I'm running 1:20s but keep in mind this is a sim so zero fear of crashing and I'm able to adjust suspension setup, arbs, rake, tire (camber, toe), and longer gearing at no cost ($$$$$) lol

Here's my racing line Cobra @ Putnam Park

Was always able to brake at the 150' mark when I got warmed up with slicks on. Coming out of 8, yes, you are going uphill, not enough crest to unload the car though.

Wow, if that's the line that get's you 1:20's....I've been doing it all wrong :D What I'm about to say is totally just what I do...not necessarily right, just, how I was taught. Entry's in to 1, 5, 7, and 8 were much earlier than what I take. Late in to 4, 9 and 10. But, again, car setup, the Sim itself...may lend to different lines around the track. Try this change only - enter 8 wider, about a car width..follow that pavement seam until mid turn and slowly increase steering input to get to the inner part of the turn, and track out to the right side candy.

BTW, my car setup, I'm not sure what all you can change on the SIM
Camber: +3
Caster: -1/2
Toe: +1/16"
Solid Axle
15:1 steering rack
17x9 Wheels
Tire Air Pressure: If slicks, I started at 22 - 24lbs COLD
Front Springs: 500#
Rear Springs: 350#
Car Weight w/Driver: 2824
Big Block
3:55 rear gears
.87 5th gear...then, just lookup the ratios for a 3650 Tremec
Not sure if there is any other info.

Try the turn 8 info above and let me know how the car works.

Some more videos:
Pro in a Camaro (yep, that's me at 2:30 getting in the way)
Open wheel car, great lines

Thanks Tim for the follow up. I'll adjust my lines and see how it works out. Lol the camaro video, you were like not today sir you shall not pass (jk). Great lines on the videos. I'll change what I can using your suspension/tire numbers and see the deltas.

I was able to change gear ratio and tire camber. Trying the adjusted line, my times were 1:23-25. I cant change anything on the brake system (rotor size, pressure, pads) with Vintage wheels. T8 adjustment did help.

Not at all Tim, I always value feedback. The sim is limited in changeable parameters so I couldn’t match your setup notes. I really use the sim to get familiar with the track before going in real life. Apple to apples time would be driving the same sim car. As we discussed Tim, Putnam is very rhythm based :)
