Hello Everyone!

The autocross this past weekend might have been delayed an hour or so by rain...and lightning, but once it passed we all had a great time slipping and sliding our way through the course! Check out the pictures posted on our Club Facebook page! I wanted to write to you regarding the results and highlights of the event.

The fun actually started on Friday night with a BBQ reception and pre-race party at Fran and Al Rutherford's house. Where we entertained the 11 visitors from the Gateway Cobra Club who came out from St. Louis to participate. A huge thank you goes out to Fran and Al for hosting this event and providing the food! I would also like to thank all the MACC members and Club officers who attended and for bringing snacks and desserts. The boys from St. Louis brought frozen custard which was wonderful! My personal favorite was the Rumarita's provided by Richard Oben and his "famous" frozen margarita machine!

It is great that we keep building upon our relationship with the Gateway Cobra Club. The cooperation between the two Clubs provides opportunities to meet new Cobra enthusiasts and share in Club events on both sides of the state. As I have evaluated the final spreadsheet supplied by Fran....and taking into account the rules set for the competition this year between MACC and GWCC - I am pleased to announce that this year's winner of the 2018 MACC Autocross "Club" competition is the GATEWAY COBRA CLUB!!!

The low time posted by Jeff Jenkins of 33.818 seconds is the fastest time, but Jeff Jenkins is not an MACC member. (we erroneously announced that he was at the track) This puts the next lowest time by a member of the GWCC or MACC to be34.253 Seconds by RICK HUBBARD of the Gateway Cobra Club! Congratulations to Rick for taking home the trophy for his Club. The closest time posted by a MACC Club member is 35.500 seconds by Vince Fulghenzi and family in their Infinity Q45! Yes there were times of 34 and 33 seconds posted by Wes McCullough in his Mazda Miata and the 2018 Mustang...but he is also NOT an MACC member. So, the 2018 winner of the friendly competition between our two Clubs is our friends from St. Louis.

Honorable mention ALSO goes to a member of the Gateway Cobra Club for the SLOWEST time to complete the course - and that goes to IAN TURNER for a blistering 95.964 + 2 second penalty for demolished cones puts him at 97.964 seconds! The MACC will provide the appropriate trophy for Ian. We will have to give up the winners trophy and I will plan a proper trophy swap ceremony in St. Louis in the near future.

As I noted earlier....it did rain on us as we set up, and tried to get started. We were delayed about an hour but it dried up quick and with 26 die hard car owners and their families and friends, waited out the rain drops and hit the course. We kept the course shorter due to the weather conditions and potential for "accidents" with the wet grass and soggy ground. Club member Everett Watts provided the timing equipment and course set up with his family pitching in to make things work - Thank you Everett!

The race grid was commanded by Paul Stevenson and Richard Oben who kept cars moving, organized and in order (as best they could - it is like herding cats sometimes). Keeping a watchful eye on starting cars onto the course fell to Tom McAtee and Al Rutherford throughout the day. Club members and their families as well as our friends from St. Louis help as corner workers on the course. Thanks for the great job of keeping things organized, on time and safe!

There was smoke flying everywhere as members Karl Mawhirter and Rene Comtois cooked burgers and hotdogs for over 75 folks in attendance. Every single burger and hot dog was consumed! Thank you Karl and Rene for feeding that large hungry bunch of racers and spectators!

We had many Club members, visitors and participants chip in and help everywhere! Thank you for helping set up the course, marking cones, griding the cars, cooking, serving, taking photos and video, pitching tents, registering contestants, keeping times, running the timing equipment, tearing down, cleaning up and even helping those who broke down! (it wasn't me who broke down this year!)

All of this spearheaded by our Race Committee Lead, Ken Williams and the Club officers and it went off with out a single incident (well maybe one...caused by our safety officer). A ton of planning and effort went into the event - so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to EVERYONE who raced, worked, spectated and volunteered! I would also like to thank the wives and family members who helped this weekend. It is ALWAYS great to see our Club families participating. These fun events are impossible to pull off with out a coordinated group effort, commitment by members and help from our loved ones. I would also like to thank all the Mom's who sacrificed time on their special weekend to let us play race cars!

A special thank you for helping us through out the event goes to Tim Mauldin and ALL the GWCC participants. Thank you for making the long drive out and back to participate in this event. Your help in setting up, officiating, and tearing down is greatly appreciated!!!!

I would like to note that many might have missed his attendance (because he drove up in a 1980 Corvette) was Club member John Kennish! If you might recall, John was suffering from tremors caused by Parkinsons and had to give up the Cobra...John underwent a radical new surgery to implant a computer chip in his brain and power cell in his chest that would remove the tremors and increase his stability. After a 9 hour cranial surgery he is MUCH BETTER! He was telling Anne and I on how his doctor can make adjustments to the system through a phone app! All he has to do is tell the doctor what is going on or wrong and the doctor can fix it from his office. He had a great story on how his left foot was not cooperating and moving "out" of position. He called the doctor and he could watch his foot be put back in place and operate correctly as he was on the phone with the doctor! The surgery, implant and technology worked so well, he bought himself that air-conditioned, full power accessory 1980 Corvette!

Keep an eye out for the e-mail with the autocross results and the next newsletter which will be packed with pictures of the event! Our next event is the June meeting and Winery & Pizza Cruise June 9th!

Best Regards,

Wayne, a big thank you, to you an Anne and all the MACC members. I had a great time again. The BBQ was the best I've had, loved it. Thank you Fran and Al, you guys have a beautiful home and property. A littles rain never hurt anyone, and we in the GCC have been in our share. Maybe next year I'll actually have a car that can make the trip.
Again, thank you for the invite, you guys have a great club.
