Cool video, still 'cheatin' racin' Rubbin's racin, not adjusting flaps, and boost and all that high falutin stuff :D
 
I thought that KERS system of converting and saving brake energy for future boost was really cool. Isn't that the way the Pirus works?
 
Don't know, that is pretty cool. Don't know how it could be used on the street.

I've heard the same thing, that the brakes create energy in the Prius much like an alternator, and stores it for later use.

Although I have no idea how it works, or if it is correct.
 
Just guessing on this, but it (prius) is probably using the electric motor to assist in the braking. If you spin a motor, it becomes a generator (much like how an alternator works) and can be used to charge batteries when coasting or braking.
 
Late in our off road R/C racing "careers", I started using regenerative electronic speed controls (Novak & Tekin for you R/C guys) in mine and Andy's cars. Backing off into turns put a top charge on the battery and made a remarkable difference in the punch available coming back on power. Tekin made the better unit in my estimation but I had to use the Novak because Andy & I had different motor, battery & electronics sponsors and I didn't want to get caught swapping components into the wrong vehicle. I still have one of the Tekin's in my boat but it's of no benefit there because the high pitch props just stop and drag when you get completely off the power.
